I like the MTW sieges but I now want more ...

I want my commander standing in the courtyard having 'Rorke's Drift' type dilemmas. "Ladders seen topping south wall, MAA repel them now "

Wouldn't it be the mutt's nuts to have troops on the walls?

rough idea -

1. addition to castle map

There could be a two man wide set of stairs up the centre of each wall for access to parapet.

The parapet would be wide enough to accomodate a rank depth of ... 3(ish)

2. additional attacker specialist siege troops

Assault ladder bearers - 60 men carrying 10 ladders. Unit would left click against fortification

Covered cat/falcon crew - 20 men who would batter their way through gatehouses

Miners - wouldn't be deployed during battle sequence but would reduce siege length in SP campaign

Siege Tower - access to parapet from outside via bridge

3. additional defender siege troops

Ladder repellers - (dudes with long sticks)

Boiling oil crew - basically naptha throwers with attidue (burn down siege towers?)

Counter-miners - used to undo work of miners in SP campaign

Obviously there wouldn't be much call for these troop types in a Napoleonic context but ...

Imagine LotR-TW ...

The massive Tolkein market thats due to be around for the next few years would pay for it if they thought they'd get to play Helm's Deep.

Or would a Total Siege add on pack be appropriate for MTW?

I would love to see seige towers. You can see one in the intro sequence.

LoTR-TW would be awesome and it would be nice if the sieges were a bit more interesting. I auto them all now. Boiling oil, battering rames, siege towers...good stuff

A Siege Pack add-on That's what this game is missing. I love playing sieges even though I can never produce the same kind of results I get when I auto-calc. I have played some other games (Stronghold, for instance) that attemped this but really weren't any better (or were worse...Stronghold) than MTW. THey have pushed the envelope w/ the battles thus far, and this might be just the finishing touch they need.

I did read somewhere, however, that the game engine isn't able to do 'troops on walls' kinda things, so that's why siege towers, oil, etc. is out of the question at this time.

Great idea

Theyd just need to steal a copy of stronghold - actually if your after the man the walls seiges why not just play stronghold and then swap back to MTW.

I think I remember seeing someone say that there was a bug that prevents the computer from taking into account the inherent garrison of the castle itself, i.e., archers firing at you from the walls. Anyone know any more about this?

i would definetly buy an addon called
Siege - MTW.

it would add so much more to the MTW experience. In an area of the game that has so much potential. after 3 months or so i need some variety to my battles and pouring boiling water on enemy troops climing siege ladders may be it. (wow imagine the animation for that - cool )

My favorite game of all time of this type was my first one. Walls of Rome, it had ladders seige towers, greek oil, flaming arrows, and was a ton of fun. You could man your walls and the only thing missing was towers to shoot arrows at the attacking army.

I have looked around for a walls of rome 2 but dont think they made one. A seige expansion pack would really be great because I am already getting tired of the siege battles for MTW, I would rather auto-calc them and only command the open field battles.

Has anyone actually experienced a siege as the besieged? Never happened to me. The AI doesn`t seem to do sieges more than once in a whole campaign.

Never happened to me either. Of course, I don't often find myself in a situation where the AI would be able to assault one of my castles.

I'm sure you could play as the besieged in a custom game on a castle map by playing as the defender, if you really wanted to.

ca said it would be very complicated to do so archers could be on the walls. Do a search and you will find more ansers about this topic
