When you start a new campaign with the Early settings, which are the first 5 buildings you create ?
What are your first goals (units), and in how many province do you start building ?

I always start with a watch tower, it only takes a turn and I like to see what my neighbours are upto. Then I build a fort, town watch then on one province a spearmaker and another a bowyer so I get spearmaen and archers as soon as possible. After that either a port(coastal) or 20% improved farmland on others. I like to concentrate on getting my income up early on then start churning out military.

About the same as Cooperman...

1) Watchtower
2) Border Fort
3) Fort
4) Inrease Farmland Production

(after that...)
Trading Post, Town Watch and then Horse Farmer...etc.etc.

1. Watchtower
2. Fort
3. Spearmaker
4. Fort II (forgot the name http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif )

and then specialising the province, archers can be imported as alwayse from startingprovince.

1. Watch Tower (keep an eye on the neighbor).
2. Fort (Viking if play as Danish).
3. Town Watch (the first melee unit for most faction).
4. Bowyer (archers).
5. Spearmaker (spearmen).

-Watch tower
-Border fort
-Fort
-First farm upgrade
-province-dependand (if coastal with goods, it's definitely a trade upgrade).

My “auto build” pattern when the game begins in early is very short.

1) Watch tower IF the region borders someone else, otherwise fort.
2) Fort
3) That’s it. The rest depends on what the region’s principle function will be and its’ resources. Town watch for some, 20% farm for others or, for a future ship building center, a keep. After that improvements are geared at various military units or shipbuilding/trade.

I don’t believe border forts are needed early on when money is tight. The AI has few if any spies or assassins so why defend against them yet?

For empty provinces,i go with this:

1.Fort
2.Watchtowers
3.farms(ports if coastal)
4.town watch
5.spearmaker then bowyer

I try setting up trade routes early for easy money and sea superiority before making armies(unless i'm playing a landclosed faction like the turks).

It depends if it has a border with another faction.

No such border :

- Mine, if any;
- Farm upgrade 20 %(unless really bad province such as Friesland, Switzerland, Norway)
- Fort;

Sea trade:
- Trading post;
- Port.
No sea trade:
- Mine complex;
- Farm upgrade 40%;

Border:

- Watchtower;
- Fort;
- Militia house;
- Spearmaker;
- Bowmaker (or first cavalry producing building if holibars or horse archers are available for my faction)

1. Watchtower
2. Inn I LOVE the quick units
3. Fort
4. Port
5. Farms

I like getting the inn as early as possible so I can get some quick troops and hurt the surrounding provinces before they get going.

Hmmm, let me think...

I guess my order would be:

1. Watchtower (if border, if not...)
2. Fort
3. Port/Spearmaker (depends on coastal or not)
4. very much depends on the province after that...

I shoot for ships as fast as I can get them, so a shipyard is a must for port provinces. Upgrade to keep or build armorer if at all possible pretty soon too. I like to get an army fielded even as quickly as possible even if it puts me in debt. I can build trading posts/farmland later... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif

watch tower
fort
town watch
spear
farming
keep
spears

watch tower
fort
town watch
20% farm
horse
inn

With this I can do second level spears and cav and win any early wars. I try to build as few first level spears as possible so long as I can avoid war. I will build some to protect borders, but try to wait for better troops.

I worry about ports after I have some farming econ and my borders are safe. I don't feel I can survive without lots of cav so cav stuff comes asap too.

Depends on the situation of course. But I always start out with a Fort, a watchtower and a border fort. After that it varies, but when there is an opportunity for trade I usually start with trading posts and ports asap. If there's no opportunity for trade I concentrate on military with spearmakers and bowyers.

if its a sea territory:
1. watchtower
2. boarderfort
3. port
4. fort
5. merchant

If its an inland territory:
1. watchtower
2. boarderfort
3. improved farmland, or mine if its possible
4. continue with farmland, or mine if its possible
5. continue with farmland

Ewww, build orders And to think I got away from them after I quit playing regular ole RTS's (Age of Kings...) for Total War

I don't use build orders, but I do have focus points. I always focus on building wealth first. Farms and mines and trade stations come on the top of my list. *nod nod*
