Is it just me, or does the campaign take forever. Optimistically I started in the Early Periode on my capaigns, but after hours of play (and to be quite honest, the game was getting repetetive) I still had 200 years to go. I have a campaign running now, and this time, wise from earlier mistakes, I started in the late periode and I am still playing the it; after 1 month http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif .
Here is my plead: Please make an option where the campaigns can be shortened. How about that in a new patch.
Any takers?
For me, it's not the length of the campaign but the lack of interesting challenges from the midpoint on. I usually play GA and add in my own 'historical' goals, but after these are met my interest lags and I often start a fresh campaign. I like the feeling when it matters what building or units I make, that it will make a difference in my factions survival.
I'd like to see a GA option with the following:
1. A greater loyalty penalty for distant provinces. Once your fleets rule the waves its too easy to maintain control of far flung areas. You could factor in the number of seas to cross to increase their rebellions.
2. More strife in the royal houses especially in times of succession. A king and heir that stay put in a centralized coastal province would lead younger sons to try and get their piece of the rock.
3. Most important an improved AI diplomacy that is more specific and individualized. You want an alliance with the Prince of Novograd, well he wants to marry off his chinless wonder and a piece of the wool trade. Your spies tell you that the deal would go smoother if a certain emmissary from the Doge would just disappear. etc. etc.
I see a progression in the game once you establish yourself as a power from the military to the diplomatic. But the bagels are here so I gotta go.

I would also like the option to get rid of the 1453 year limit, not some mod/hack.

you don't expand alot cardinal, keep yer armies on the move and keep conquering its gonna be pretty short.and once you hit the 60% "conquer europe" mark start defending and doing a bit of politics.conquering all of europe is pretty awesome too

i ve finished campains in a day or two starting from early and ending in total domination. it shouldnt take you a month at any circumstances. try to auto resolve some battles , this will shorten the time.
a month? I usually play conquest mode until I see that I have the strongest faction and there are no real challenges left. At that point I consider it a victory and I decide to play a new campaign. I only hit the 60% mark a couple times and never the total conquest. Once I tried but a huge mass of reimerging factions all in one year made me roll my eyes and give up. The game is best early on when your campaign strategy and tactics on the battlefield really have some consequences.

those are 3 good ideas from DojoRat and i'm down with it.
but the idea about distance penalty reminds me of civ III, ie for a large map the penalty was quite excessive as the distance increased ... till it reached a point where we needed to have a fresh sense of humor to expand the territories.
so I hope it comes with reasonable algorithm

Well i know id prefere a game that takes a very long time to complete than a game which takes a day to complete. The fun lasts on and on (and on and on) http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I find this statement to be incredible
A day or two means different things for different people. Just like Cardinal's 30 day Campaign Exactly, what are you people talking about?
In your case, do you meant 24-48 NON-STOP hours? or 2 to 3 hours per day over a two day period? Same with Cardinal, how many hours per day over that month long period? If an hour or two per day then, he's in the same ball park.
Sometimes, I, too, would like a shorter Campaign. Often, "real" Life can be too short for a long campaign http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Really, the only change to accomplish it, would me multiple player loadable Campaign maps. Ideally, as has been mentioned before, maps drilled down to the Province or "Regional" level.

Well, I agree with ToranagaSama. It all depends on how you're playing the game and how often
Sometimes it can be a bit boring going through all the same actions again, but just remember it can turn around every moment... as I witnessed yesterday as my dominating position as the Polish suddenly turned and I am now loosing the GA campaign more and more... but I am still hanging in... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Well, some good poiNts here. Nice to see I am not the only one with this problem. The sensible thing is ofcourse to terminate the game when you know you have won, but you never know what you will be missing then. Secondly, there is always a little something, a little video clip or something similar at the end, which I find very satifying. It is like a "job well done" clap on the shoulder.
PLease make an option for shorter campaigns
Quote[/b] ] try to auto resolve some battles , this will shorten the time........now where is the fun in that. Having the AI blow all your men through bad tactical decicions? No, that is a priveledge I hold. (Constable of the Roaly Privy and Poor Decicions).
