Last night while playing as the Russians, I sent 2 armies with 8 units each to invade the French province of Mercia. One army came from Novgrod, the other from Lithuania. When it came to fight the battle, only one of my armies was there.
This happened once before, but I thought I had done something wrong. This time however, I knew I hadn't done anything wrong and was a bit annoyed.
I won the battle and thought about it afterwards and realised that this is actually pretty cool. I mean, in those days, what are the chances of 2 amphibious invasion forces co-ordinating themselves well enough to meet before a battle? Quite low I'd expect. So well done CA for an added little touch.

I have never seen this 'bug' before/
When playing my English campaign I relly almost entirly on naval dominance so that If i want to atack a provine I can move units from every costal province to the trouble area in one turn. If one of my armies didn't turn up i'd be in a bit of a muddle.
although i do agree that it is quite accurate in the sort of random events way. Any number of real like events could have stopped that army ariving, bad weather, pirates, poor navigation etc... If it only happens once every 10 or so invasions it adds quite a nice realism to the game.

It's only the second time I've seen it, and like you I tend to grab units from various coastal provinces for invasions, etc.
ive never had that happen to me before.. and considering ive launched invasions from about 5 different places, im quite relieved
Pardon my ignorance, but is there someone who can explain how the amphibious assaults work? I just got the game yesterday and I can't seem to figure out the amphibious movements. I looked for FAQs but found none and looked for similar questions on the board in the last 10 days but found none either.
I'm trying to launch an attack from Denmark on Scotland, and I have 1 longboat in the North Sea. I can't drag the army from Denmark to Scotland, I can't drag it onto the fleet, can't combine it with the fleet, and can't think of anything else. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif
Help greatly appeciated.

OK what you need to do to move an army by naval meens is make sure there are no enemy ships in the see "territory" you wish to cross, if there are any enemy ships or boats then you wont be able send an army across that water, attack the enemy ship with your ship and if you win you will be able to move your army directly to scotland You dont combine your army with a ship thats not how it works. when you 'pick up' an army all the provinces that you can move to in that turn are highlighted. Build up a few ships so that you can move around any of the adjacent coastal regions. Oh yeah you must also have a port to be able to move from a province by ship, but not to land there.
I hope that helped http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I never had that happen to me either. not that i know of anyway. I guess its a bug
Thanks for the replies. Incidentally I discovered that what I was missing was a second fleet in Skagerak. My army had to move from Denmark through Skagerrak and then through the North Sea to Scotland, even though the North Sea borders the west coast of Denmark. Must be because the port in Denmark isn't on the west coast.
Scotland is mine now and England is looking very tasty. What a fabulous game. Thanks.

Interesting, though got a couple questions. Did you have a lot of casualties, enough so the remaining units were grouped under one general? Was the second army still in its starting province or where did it go? Not sure about this actually being a feature though I've been known to be wrong before. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

when you tried to bring your smaller army from lithuania to mercia, did the army drop directly into the province? if you are bringing an army by sea into another territory, if it's possible to invade by sea, your army should have dropped directly into the province, just like you were moving directly into an adjacent territory by land.
...... something about invading Ireland by sea that caught me out the other night, I invaded with an overwhelming army, all my best units and absolutly flogged the poor Irish rebels. Next thing you know, those untrustworthy Germans invaded one of my provences even though we were supposed to be allies. Problem was, my fighting force was stuck in Ireland because when I invaded, there was no port there. I had to wait until I had built one before I could get back and chase the Germans off
