Are there supposed to be any new Diplomatic options in the expansion pack? I think there should be reprocussions for breaking an alliance. Other clans should be more hesitant to ally with you if you have previously broken an alliance. What about asking allies to attack an enemy of yours? Other options?
Hmmm ...good questions there Mr N. Anyone ?
Cheers

Well, they haven't told us everything, but I think the AI will be less eager to break alliances now. And the likelihood of joint attacks / allies arriving to support your defence is increased, but is still not in your control. You can't ask for it, it just happens once in a while, when the conditions are correct.

I agree with the consequences part of diplomacy. Your past record should, and would, greatly influence other daimyo whom you are negotiating with. Being labeled a liar would certainly have severe problems down the line. It would force players to think more strategically as well.
Japan, a country of extremes.

Unless you got a high honor emissary who
can confuse the target DAIMYO and actually
make him believe that your past actions are
in fact advantageous to both of your clans, ehem.

Daimyo's are less eager to ally with you if you're a treaty-breaker, so there's more of an onus to keep your word. If you declare war with an ally of an ally your ally will have to decide who he stays allied to. Clear? No? OK:
i.e. you're mates with Hojo. You want to delcare war on Takeda, but Takeda is also allied with Hojo. When you declare war, Hojo has to decide who he wants to remain allied to, because he has a conflict of interest. He could end your alliance because he would feel more threatened with Takeda as an enemy, or he could feel safer with you and so tells Takeda to stuff himself.
Also, there are more options for spies. You can bribe armies to join your side, you can use ninja to break sieges, and all sorts of other stuff which has slipped my mind at the moment.

Yeah, but the REAL important question:
Can we send the enemy emissary's head home in a box? I like the informal kind of declaration of war....

One characteristic of Sengoku is that there are a lot of short-term alliances. For example, Mori Motonari switched between Amako and Ouchi 2 or 3 times (in other words, he betrayed his ally for more than 4 or 5 times) in total for Mori's own good - and 500 hundred years later people still think Motonari is the smartest guy in Sengoku Japan! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gif
So I prefer to say lets just make the players feel more like being in Sengoku! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif Not only your ally may turn on you, but also your heir can backstab you if you don't give him a lot of army and koku allowance! (That's what really happened in Sengoku very often). However, we really demand more heirs or soon everybody will become ronin - http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
