It is a matter of common knowledge that Sicilian kings (through the designers' mistake) have Scottish names totally inadequate for the faction in question. I wonder can I somehow change them to more suitable?
I believe the answer can be found here (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?30881-Tips-for-a-more-historically-accurate-MTW). Everybody wants to be Scottish...
I would say Viking as they settled that land for a landing zone as history has it.It really should be an alley of the Danish.
Not really; while Viking, they were of the Norman variety and would likely have French names like the Normans (vikings that were bought out by the French king who gave them Normandy if they stopped raiding France). Within two(I believe) generations, they were French speaking. I guess it depends on the timing.

Their dialect was still somewhat different from the central French one, so after the Norman conqest in fact 4 vernaculars were in use in England - Norman dialect, the French language, Old English and (for scientific and religious purposes) Latin.

Where should I look for the file in question and - most importantly - will it not harm my game in any way?
It sure does if you know your Viking history well and see that Sicillians are faired skinned and have blond and red hair.Normans have more in common with the Danish which is where William the Conquer came from.

The path should be something like this: c:\Program Files (x86)\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Total War Medieval 1 Gold\campmap\names\
Inside you'll find DEFAULT_HEROES file. You need to change line 64 - "SET_FORENAMES:: FN_SICILIAN 14 8"
It won't harm your game but to be sure make a backup before.

They have Scottish names? I'm missing something here... Tancred, Guy, William, Roger, Simon... Although I do agree on Fitzalan and Fitzneale.
Probably Norman lords from England who were given land there. Robert Guiscard conquered Sicily from the Caliphate and was given the title of Duke by the Pope then created a county for his younger brother Roger Bosso. It united with the Duchy of Apulia and Calabria when it's Duke William died and Roger II inherited it forming the Kingdom of Sicily in 1130. The Counts were Roger, Simon, and Roger II of the house of Hauteville. In 1194, the House of Hauteville lost the kingdom to the House of Hohenstauffen ending the Norman names. Norman monarchs were: Roger, William, Tancred and Constance.

If you goto the OP you will see that the names mentioned by Sultan_Suleyman are the names that he offers to REPLACE the ones in the game which are Angus, Aed and the like.
