View Full Version : How do I increase security?
Ive got a problem in Northumbria .... my Generals keep getting assasinated Ive got watchtowers, border forts and a keep as well as some economic improvments and a small force garrisoned there as well ..... but nearly every turn I get the "your plans have been disrupted by the death of your general .....must increase security". Okay, so I havent been mr. nice guy to all the other factions and I dont blame them for sending assasins at me but how do I increase security? ...... and why is this happening turn after turn in just one province?
Your Borderforts only catch Assasins, Spys as they enter your province, but once they are inside they are kinda invisible to your forces. Placing an Spy in the Province should make them visible to your "Security" forces.

Spys and assassins still dies after they enterd a territory with a boarderfortress. The building keeps on killing, atleast all my spies and assassins ive used have been killed after I put them in territorys with boarderfortress

Spies Assassins and Emissaries (maybe even Bishops?) all have a chance to catch an enemy agent in your province. I usually keep one of each in each province. For awhile you might want to devote one or two provinces to cranking out agents...a surplus means you can "deal" with the pope when he ex's you, assist nationalist movements in oppossing territories, spread the faith, and even (perhaps) get your heirs married to nubile you princesses

I wonder...do border fortresses only attempt to catch spies/assassins as they go in and out, or do they continually check for them? Viking, your problem might be attributable to the AI's spies and assassins sniffing your guys out. But I wonder...

border fortress should keep on catching them, but high honor assasins have a higher chance to survive.
Off topic, i found inquisitors to be more useful in killing generals (catholics), at least they won't die after a failure attempt.

think ur kidding right http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif I believe destroying all ports will help the cause of rebellions, and drastic losses of income

Burning all ports would greatly increase security, if you placed kings and generals in the middle of your lands, it would take YEARS for any spy to get near you, by which time they would of had to move thro many border forts....
Of course, a lack of ports would most likely cripple your empire, leave you unable to stop naval invasions, stop your trade income, stop troop movement and keep your kings and generals in stupid places.... so its probably not worth it overall http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Also, it doesn't matter if you are at war with a faction or not. Even your allies will send assassins and spies into your provinces. Trust me...I've seen it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
I always build Watch Tower before I build the Port. I have at least 1 spy, 1 Assasin and one religious agen in all provinces. Later I would build Border Fort and also doudle the number of agents. If play as a Catholic faction, I always have at least one Bishop in every provinces. Bishop can lower the inquisitors' chance of sucessfully trial my generals.
Burning the Port can be useful if you want to trap an enemy high valour agent (Inquisitor/Emmisary/Priest...) on an Island or force hime to take a longer route so that your assasins can target them before they escape to a safer province. But, it might cost you more than wasting a dozen assasins on the target.
