Local computer gaming store should have a nice 3d video card. Or if your in the states, hit the nearest Wal-Mart. Radeon supposedly came out with a new one that supports the not yet out DirectX 9, but hey some people have problems with ATI products. I'd go for a 32 or higher, though once you hit 32 I think you need the AGP type cards. Talking about 100 bucks for these if not more.

Yeah, if you want nice frame rates and decent resolution. If your a cheapo type of guy buy a Geforce4 MX series, although not the best still worth it for the price. Around 60-70 $.

I got a Geforce4 Ti4200 for $90 but that was the an early bird deal (after thanksgiving sale).

Good Luck.

your last reply is a bit vague to me but if you can see anything on the screen then u have a video card mate. Just check what kind it is you have.

The importance of good a video card and good support from its manifacturers are (the obvious ones): stability of the game (less likely to have crashes/conflicts/other probs) and it also speed up game performance. There are others concerning rendering and such but no need to worry about them mate as long as you can play and enjoy.

ATI (marked built by ATI) and its clones (powered by ATI) have economic budget line up you can choose, then buy the OEM version of it (no retail box) online for even cheaper price. Just make sure it's not refurbish.

this link has product info:

The thing is I don't think I have a good video card because while I'm playing Shogun there is a big black box around the 'battle' screen but I am used to it.

The only things I need to aqquire are-

1- Windows media player
2- DirectX 8.1 unless it is provided on the disk
and 3- A video card... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/angry.gif

Thanks anyway.

There is a version of DirectX8.1 provided with the game. Some ppl even recommend using it over (perhaps) more up-to-date ones you might download on the web.

Well the very bad news is that I did not buy it. Simply because on the back of the MTW box said that the game requires a 3D accelerator card, which is something I don't have and I have no money to purchase.

In the above post explaining all system requirments, it said nothing about I 3D accelerator card. Yes it did say Video card but no 3D card.

Dude, every modern PC comes with a video card that does 3D. It's just a matter of how well it does it. The major factor is how much memory the video card has. In the specs above minimum is 16 megabytes. Reccommended is 64 megabytes. Get the 64 megabytes

Provide a little info, and people could help you better.

What freaking PC do you have? Do you know?

Where'd you buy it? What's the model and model number? Is it a Gateway, Dell or something else?

First off, here's a couple books that everyone should have in their PC library:

How Computers Work (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0789725495/qid=1041112870/sr=2-1/ref=sr_2_1/103-4690857-1647048)

The Hardware Bible (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0789717433/qid=1041114019/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/103-4690857-1647048?v=glance&s=books)

Both will make your PC life a lot easier.

Good Luck
