View Full Version : HOTSEAT - Crusades New player Hotseat
Hello everyone, Theris here, I'm looking to start a Crusades Hotseat campaign. While I'm not new to Medieval 2 Total War I have not done a Hotseat before, so I'm still new to this part of the game. Here are the basic rules for the game, which are subject to change.
Rules
1. You have 48 hours once you receive the save file to carry out your turn and pass it to the next player. (Extensions allowed for special circumstances)
2. When you send the save please send a PM as well to let the next person in line know when it’s their turn.
3. Each player is allowed only 1 fort in each of their provinces, and these forts can only be built by the Faction Leader and Heir. You cannot build a fort in an enemy Territory.
4. Battles are to be led, not auto resolved.
5. No Jihads
6. All players are to start with a blank Diplomatic sheet, meaning that you will start with no Allies and no Enemies.
7. Each player is allowed 1 Assassin and 3 Spies, they may have as many Priests, Merchants and Diplomats as they can produce.
8. Assassins are allowed any of their actions on any percent
9. Players my not Initiate Diplomacy with the AI, if they are offered a deal they must choose either to accept it or reject it, no haggling.
10. Alliances and Non-Aggression pacts may be made in public or in secret, public treaties must be sealed with a Diplomate, while private treaties are a simple agreement between players.
11. Public treaties may be disbanded at any time, just be warned that other players may not trust you afterwards.
12. Armies are not allowed to wait inside a navy at port.
13. A Navy may not sneak out of a blockaded port, the must lift the blockade.
Banned Exploits
1. Merchant Fort
2. Agent squashing
3. Movement bug of any kind. However, sending your general to attack a settlement then bringing the rest of the army is allowed.
4. Recruitment pool increasing
5. Attacking ships inside a port
6. Pushing enemy agents with your own agents. You can push them with your armies

Sure! that sounds like it will be interesting. I'll set it up using the Steam version, unless you guys are using the disks.
Also... how do I send the save file? through Email? or is it possible to send it through a PM?

I've got the disk version, and i can't recall at the moment if there is any issue with that. do you remember Myth?
As for saves, you can actually upload them on this site and then just link to the file in a post on the forum.
You upload them by going to downloads at the bar on the top of the page and on the top left there will be a button to upload a file. Just make sure you've stuffed it in a zip file first or it is likely to be too large for the site.

oh, and just a heads up that if you put an @ symbol in front of a person's name, it will notify them that you mentioned them in the post. Can be useful when letting people know it is their turn.
OK, Theris please add the fort rule as well. I'll do my turn tonight and yes, using the .org file uploader is best IMO. Very easy to go back in turn history if we need to replay anything.
Theris i got the save, we're using regular unit size. Want to switch it to huge before we get it underway?
Also, the rule about assassins:
. Assassins are allowed any of their actions on any percent < we should make it so that one assassination per turn is allowed and it should be the very first action done on that turn. Otherwise it's assassin wars and with forts restricted to FMs it can get really nasty.
Here are the rules from CoG 3 which was lead battles:
Rules
Each player has 48 hours to complete his turn (not counting weekends). After that the Admin may skip his faction or he can be subbed.
Do not bypass or ignore zones of control to lift a siege (or in any other way).
Do not attack ships in ports.
Armies boarding ships in ports can't stay there for more than one turn.
Don't leave blockaded ports without beating the blockading ships first.
Don't stack merchants in armies or forts to get more than one to stand on the same resource (Merchant Fort)
No surrounding armies or agents to destroy them. (Surround&Destroy)
Don't attack units who were left next to a settlement in order to capture it on the same turn in order to cheat the garrison script. In fact don't cheat the garrison script period. (this only applies vs AI factions)
Don't use repeated offers for bribe to increase your faction leader's dread.
Enable "Unlimited men on battlefield" in order to not abuse when leading battles vs the AI (PM me for instructions, though SS has this on by default)
Armies that are defeated in battle by a player that comes after them in the turn list may not move the following turn. This is to make it fair for people who are defeated by players that come before them in the turn list, and thus lose all their movement points
Armies that are defeated in battle may not be attacked on the following turn, as they are banned from moving, either by the game mechanics or by the rule above. They must be allowed to move first, or must be reinforced. If the defeated army retreats to a settlement or fort, this rule does not apply.
Ballistas can't open anything, catapults can open wooden walls, trebuchets or better can open anything.
Assassins are allowed to target agents (not FMs/generals) but the players are limited to one assassination attempt per turn. It must be the first action they do, before they spend money or do anything else. Upon a successful assassination the game admin can load that player's save and attempt the assassination. If the results are different there will be penalties for cheating.
Spies cannot open anything, not vs. the AI and not vs. players.
Crusades and Jihads cannot be called, joined or used/exploited in any way.
ONLY religious buildings can be destroyed upon the conquest of a settlement and ONLY if they are of a religion different than your own.
No trading of provinces to receive free troops. If you trade provinces, make sure they have no garrison prior to the exchange.
No deliberate deals that would put you in debt above -10,000 florins.

sorry on the delay guys, I'm having trouble with getting my game to launch the kingdoms campaigns. They aren't showing up in the launcher for some reason. Any ideas myth? If I have to do a reinstall it may take a few days as I'll have to dig up the disc at my parent's house

In layman's terms, the basileos is asking for two parties to be sent out to Antioch and Jerusalem. They will consist of Orthodox priests, merchants and perhaps other agents, as well as a force of troops lead by a general. The Faction Heir will accompany them to build a fort in each province, then leave the general to oversee the stacks there. These armies will ensure the peace of these regions and especially oversee the conversion of the local populace to Orthodox Christianity. Should any Muslim invasions begin, these armies will assist.
I posted the letter here because it stands to reason that such an undertaking can't really be hidden from the Turkish spies.

I was actually worried I was holding up the game myself, having been without internet for a few weeks now ^^,
My work has internet, but its satellite and limited, and there are a few other employees who really... Really can't live without it, who often suck it dry. But it refills soon so it shouldn't be an issue.

I'd still like to keep playing as well, and good to hear from you by the way, I was starting to worry as well.
If we do start up again I won't be able to play until the start of next month, I've got three big trips going on over the next couple weeks that will have me decidedly out of the loop until they're over.

Did you get familiarized wtih Stainless Steel? I had a 1v2 idea that was meant for that mod. One gets unlimited funds and arguably the most powerful faction in Early.

Didn't know you did salsa. I just started learning a couple months ago.
