View Full Version : Generals dying of old age?
Umm.. I have a little question.
Do non-royal generals ever die of old age?
Or assassins or fleet commanders for that matter?

No, not ever ever ever.
In fact, if you have several heirs and the eldest takes over the kingdom, then the rest of them stay as very good generals that you can give titles too and treat just as any other, albeit very good, general.
Some think that this is not very good and complain about realism. I say that it is a game and is great. After all, a 9 star general is practially imortal in song and history anyway...
Good. I was afraid my best generals would die eventually.. Glad to hear the game is a little unrealistic in some areas. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
I don't think the age was introduced to the generals because it would make it a sore chore to build up armies and click through announcements every year that this generals has died (remember that each unit has a commander that the engine keeps track of and that commander could become a general at any time).
basically the way the developers looked at it was each general trains his son (or a competent subordinate) to take over from him when he dies...
Thus the general never seems to die...i kinda like to think of it that way...

Yep...Sir Richard Plantagenat in my English campaign lived for over 310 years...you can imagine all the vices and virtues he accumulated over those years. LOL http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

To fix this, and to add more realism, a progressive vice entitled "aged" featuring health and skill reduction for each level of the vice would ensure his death in battle or assassination.
An "immature" vice could also be included.

Or a "frequently falls of his horse" vice when he gets older and older.
I agree it would be too much work to also keep tracvk of all the generals. And I like Barocca's view on this
