View Full Version : The Coolest Looking Unit
I know I'm not the only one who likes to admire the neat little drawings of each unit in their info window. So that's why I'm asking you, the public, which unit is the coolest looking unit in the game?
My vote: The Gallowglass.
I don't know, there's just something really cool about wearing a cape and a big helmet, and holding a big-ass sword.
okay, slow down everybody. don't all post at once

ermm gallows with kapes what game u playin?
but seriously though for me its a row of pikemen (ingame)
but info drawing its highland clansmen.
Arquebusier, come on people. The guns, the smoke, the noise and the only thing wrong with them is that they were programmed incorrectly (in my opinion). Come on give them the accuracy of at least 40% not 7%.
I mean look at archers with 60% accuracy and 63% lethality. Arquebusiers are 7% accuracy and 400% lethality.
Why is this so? Why? Make them at least of some use, I want to have 1 Arquebusier unit so in a MP end game i can target the already weakened units into submission of a rout. Now thats resourcefulness

On the unit info screen the picture of the swiss armoured pikeman looks pretty cool.
In the game itself however some units appear to be better animated than others when you zoom way in, especially when the unit is fighting on a bridge (it seems to get that little bit closer). Peasants are an example of good animation whereas ordinary archers are pretty bad.
im my opinion, the janissary Heavy Ionfantry.. those are some mean lookng weapons they got

Not the actual look of the unit while leading them. I was talking about the drawing of each unit in thir info box -- they've got a little cape draped over their shoulder. And let's not forget about their stache Badass stache.
A close second to the Gallowglass would be the Gothic Sargeants. They're just some badass Germans, no doubt about it -- too bad they don't have a stache.

I have to say the Hospitaller Foot Knights or the Gothic Foot Knights. These guys can do no wrong in my eyes.
And to be honest with you guys, I was disapointed with the way they did the units when I first got it. I thought that the Jannisary Heavy Inf. would be some mea looking guys, but they wear basically a copy and paste of Feudal Man-at-Arm's body, and th Billmen's weapon (yet their shield is a unique feature).
Well, I'm pretty sure those drawings were 3d renders, along with the portraits.
As for the portraits, you can easily tell they just took about 12 unique faces and just went Mr. Potato style on them -- adding mustaches and scarves and longer hair -- until they eventually had around 3000 faces.

Golden Horde Units rule. BTW, I haven't tried playing mods with the mongols. Is there a way to build more, or are we limited to the ones present at the beginning?

Janissary Heavy would be number one with me.
Gothic sergeants are very cool too. They look like they're dressed in stainless steal http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Heheeh...
In battle... Ghazi no doubt Look closely and you can see the detail on them, they look badass with those beards and axes.
Picture... Can't deside but Highlanders look cool, Chivalric Knights look very... knightly hehe http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif, Varangian Guards look like they could take on anything and Gothic Sergeants look like canned humans with those clamshell helmets.

Actually, this is pretty accurate, historically. Even early industrial-age muskets had horrible accuracy, so to expect their predeccesors to have anything better is unreallistic. The only way early guns (beside cannons, etc) to get good results were to fire them in large groups.
As for pics...hmm...love em all, but SAPs r my fav...

Actually they'd probably still mow through you....
I think that Urban Militia look good in their little box.
It looks like they have an enormous axe, the reason i bought so many of them and was shocked when i discoverd they are crap. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

No you can build more. Golden Horde Horse archers require a bowyers guild and horsebreeders guild.

You can dismount Golden Horde Horse Archers too. They become Golden Horde Warriors when dismounted. If you just want to build Golden Horde Warriors though, all you need is a bowyers guild I think.
Saracen Infantry http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
They look like spartan phalanx warriors on the field of battle.
