I have finished a new historical battle and it is available for download at my site.
The battle is between massive armies of England and Scotland (both with large amounts of cannons ) and the scottish camped on a large ridge.

This battle can be played as both the english and the scottish so get over there and enjoy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wave.giftotal battles (http://www.geocities.com/kyodaijonesy)

I don't know whether you've noticed but after having installed the battle and playing as the Scots It's impossible to do anything with the guns. One can give orders to all the units but the Scottish guns can not be used. That's a shame because in the real battle the Scots, who had a great number of guns transported from Edinburgh all the 'muddy' way to the English border opened up with a massive barrage in order to smash the English from afar. The only problem was that the canonballs didn't hit the enemy. The barrels could not be depressed far enough. Quite a thing to discover at a time like that.
For the rest.....a fine setup if only the lag had not appeared again. Probably too many troops for my system.

the cannons were set up that way, if u let the english move close your culverns will fire at them, but i wanted to make the scottish guns largly uneffective, if u play the scottish and move into the marshy area u will notice the english serpentines will do great damage as in the real battle http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Very nice stuff Kyodai- thanks. I like battles as historically accurate as possible and this one looks good and plays great. Have you seen the book of the Two Men in a Trench TV series ? This has the results of the battlefield archaeology survey they carried out at Flodden and it makes for very interesting reading. They actually found earthwork remains of one of the dug in Scottish gun emplacements. They also did Barnet in this series, although they found very little here as its a golf course now

Awesome battle kyodai-britishbeef I played both sides last night. First played as the Scots and got my clock cleaned. No matter what I did the Lancers always got in behind my Pikes and caused them to eventually rout. Really sweet watching the entirety of the English forces surrounding my general, the last remaining unit, and hacking away forever while he battles on slowly dwindling away to nothing On the other side I never was able to lure the Scots off the hill so as the English I was forced to go out and get them. The cannon really are ineffective, especially when you skirt around the right edge of the map. Then I used a pincer movement along the base of the escarpment and coming up from the right along the top of the hill. For some reason half the pike abandoned the top of the hill and headed towards the back of the map just as my lancers reached the top so it was a simple matter to hit them from behind and rout them. The remaining pike simply couldn't face up to the overwhelming numbers of billmen and CMAA. All in all a very nasty fight. I especially enjoyed the very beginning of the battle as the English, just standing there looking at the top of a hill that bristles with pikes, gives ones stomach a rather unsettled feeling. Thanks for adding to the M:TW experience

The first time I played this I had a complete fluke win as the Scottish. Game opens - Lord Howe's troops re-deploy away from the culverins. The culverins open fire on the English. Suddenly the game ends - figured it was a bug in the game - but no - a cannon round had taken out the Earl of Surrey http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif The cannon do seem to be effective if you let them carry on firing for a while before moving any troops to counter the English. They had taken out 86 enemy within three minutes of the game opening. The Serps never seem to get a chance to be used unless you can lure an English unit to that side of the hill.

those cannons can be nasty in historical battles where general preservation is vital
