Arquebusiers I can understand, but why have any h-h infantry units at all, and why that mix of cavalry?

Certainly Boyars as high class close-combat cavalry with archery would be a little odd.

Basic cavalry types in Napoleonic times were:

Cuirassiers - armoured, heavy (some were unarmoured)
Dragoons - unarmoured, heavy-medium
Hussars, Light Dragoons, Chevaux-legere - unarmoured, light

All of the above armed with sword only for h-h, but also usually some sort of firearm

Lancers, Uhlans, Cehvaux-leger-lancier - unarmoured, light, armed with lance (considered to be useful vs infantry)

Irregulars:
"Regular" Cossacks & some Polish Cav - relatively high quality for irregulars, used to European warfare, usually armed with lance, firearms

Other cossacks & tribesmen - Tartars, etc. Highlyvariable - individuals might be armoured in mail, bows and sabres used, not often used in Europe sop not used to European style warfare.

well ive tried for realism vs balance. they still had some h2h units in napolenoc times, but not many, and obviousle they were lightly armoured, but it also give some more variety for what can sometimes be potentually boring games. As for Boyars, they were arround until the revolution, maybe not as horse archers, but boyars were typically the russian nobility

and as far as cavalry goes, ive gone for light cavalry only, as anything heavy would begin to tip the balance of the game too much

anyway, after testing these, it is the best balance possible withought taking away from the excellent gun battles

Yes Boyars were Russian nobility - but that's the same as saying Knights were the English nobility...so why not have Knights as well?

Sorry - but it doesn't make any sense.

And they did NOT have any pure hand-to-hand regular infantry in Napoleonic times - such troops disappeared in Europe about 1720 with the Swedish army being the last to field pikemen as part of regular regiments.

Even rebel Scots Highlanders contained significant numbers of musketeers by 1745 (Culloden), but if you wnated to include Highlanders at that date it would be reasonable - but hat's 60 years before Napoleonic times start
