I usually don't mind siege weapons in mp, since it gives them less shock units. But I get really pissed when they aim the cannons at my gen and he dies in the first few minutes half way across the map >http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

CA needs to do something about this, like make it very hard to kill a gen with siege weapons. Until then, don't aim them at my general or I will surround your army

Have the general in a cav unit and move him around a lot. Haven't lost him yet to that in MP and only once in SP.

I came up agains some serious cannon power on a mountain map with shingen mitch last night, i lost about 50 troops in the first few minutes of marching up the hill http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Game crashed so justice was probably done http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

No justice in war. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

I rarely lost my gen to arty fire, once was real funny though I killed my own gen wih one of my own catapults. LMAO http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif He was in melle and I decided to give some ahem fire support.

All I can say is lets use what units the game has to our advantage, we have artillery so best put it to effect. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif

Yup

I will start with a barrage of Livers, then I will pound the enemy with the heavy Spleens, as they close I will change the ammo to a spreadshot of Kidneys, and finally I will use the devastating entangling shots of Intestines.

Can you beat that? What was that? A 'NOOOOOOOO', I thought so. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

well the way i see it, a single cannon may kill up to 50 of my men... so what makes that more effective than a close in unit??? When it comes to the crunch, the more units one can muster in the h2h, the better your chances of winning.. cannons dont seem to help much here

I don't mind cannons too much, heck I use them sometimes. But what I dislike is the probablility of a general getting hit seem too high, especially for cav.

It would be nice for CA to tweak this so cannons are less likely to hit the gen, but they do use collision detection with the projectiles I think.

Have you tried to set gen in loose formation instead of close formation at game start? There is no reason to keep gen in wedge or close formation when there is no enemy around. The gen won't run away, he has gen morale bonus http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Also, not only lose, but in 2 rows (wide formation). This reduces the death rate of cannon balls. 50 men lost out of a single cannon? That quite high, I never got anything close to that. My heaviest lost due to cannon is about 60, but the opponents brought 5 of them, high val, quite expensive stuff.

If cannon defenders (or attackers) call their stuff precious, just treat them as golums.
