What is the most overpowered unit in the game:boxing:, and what is the most underrated? This in in relation to how they perform against other units and especially in auto-resolve.

For me, I think it is either the Bull Warriors or any kind of chariot units for overpowered. Chariots swing any autoresolve heavily, and Spain should not get a double hitpoint unit, especially with the stats that Bull Warriors have.

For underrated, I think regular Hoplites. They get no love in an autoresove situation, and they will hold their own against most other units.

Cataphract Archers. Can't think of any other unit in the game that can hold their own against any other unit. Stand off and use bow-shot, or go to melee when ammo is gone. With gold armor and weapons, it's absurd~

Agreed about chariots and auto-resolve. It's the single reason why an AI-led Egypt overruns all other AI-led factions in the Middle East.

Also agreed on hoplites, especially militia hoplites. Very under appreciated.

In fighting the battles, chariots are a joke. As far as the MH, there is not basic level unit I would rather have (though Scythia's equivalent barracks unit is their bare-bones cav archer). Really, outside of that, would you rather have Militia Hoplites or: Town Watch, Town Militia, Warband, Nubian Spearmen, Eastern Infantry, or Numidian Javelinmen?

I left off Spear Warband of Germania because they would be better. Higher attack, higher defense, more bonuses, larger unit. However, this is countered by the fact that Germanian units don't really improve too much after this, and because they are phalanx you will always want Spear Warband in your army. I quickly phase MH out of my armies, and Seleucid, Greek, and Macedonian units quickly surpass the abilities of Militia Hoplites. Axemen, Night Raiders (not a bad unit), and Chosen Axemen (good in limited roles) are not vast improvement over SW. However, Hoplites and especially Armoured Hoplites are vast improvements over MH, let alone Silver Shields and Macedon's Royal Pikemen, and even the Phalanx Pike units (more men, longer spears, more armour).

Yeah, the case could be made for Spartans being too overrated. Great attack, great defense, two hit points. At the point in history of the game, Spartans were nothing special. Maybe they should only have one hit point.

Early on, best unit for holding a town are Militia Hoplites. If the computer would use them right, Seleucia could easily hold off the early attackers. Spear Warband are good in that role as well.
