I started a campaign in the Charlemagne DLC - first with the Emirate of Cordoba and then I plan on with Charlemagne because I started off with Char initially but it was quite complicated, so I went for something easier instead.

Couple of points...

Impressive building tree (varied, a lot of different options / bonuses)
Culture has a huge impact (if you don't solve it quickly you lose your campaign)
Various kingdoms make up for an interesting fight
Some more unit variation would be great
Huge battles aren't really common
The campmap is huge, even if it's half of Europe only

Any thoughts on the DLC?

Definitely agree. The setting is great, I love being in early medieval Europe, but the lack of unit diversity puts a damper on things, plus the open battles seem to be too few. Like I think in about 10 hours playing the DLC I fought two non-siege battles.

I finished 2 more campaigns - Mercia and Lombards. Mercia was enjoyable, Lombards were as well but the Emirate of Cordoba was by far the best.

Looking forward to Charlemagne.
