(sorry, long rambling post&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I was playing a GA Campaign game (Early, Normal) as the Almohads (or however you spell it) and although I was in a very strong position with a large empire including all of the Iberian peninsular, the barbary coast as far as Egypt and both Corsica and Sardinia, I was having serious financial problems. My large armies were recovering and retraining after a furious attack from the Egyptians in North Africa (3,500 strong army against my 2000) and a French crusade in Aragon - which actually did less damamge than the Egyptians and after a few more years everyone deserted lol

My trade has really suffered though. My fleets once stretched from the Baltic right around through the Med into the black sea and far eastern Med. But they have been attacked ceaselessly and although I must have sunk about 50 or more enemy ships I have been forced to withdraw from some areas and I am being blockaded in others. My trade has dropped from about 4500 florins per turn to about 500. Things were looking serious; I had only one Ally, the Turks who were busy fighting tooth and nail with Bysantia (and whom I was blockaded from trading with) and I was neutral with the Danes and the Papal states which provided a small amount of trade.

So I decided to try and sue for peace with some of my not so fanatical enemies to help recover my economy and build up my navy again. England, France, Italy, Egypt and Bysantia all refused a ceasefire (several factions were already eliminated at this point including the spanish and Aragonaise). So after my most experienced emersaries returned empty handed, I decided to pick on the two states that I least wanted war with (the idea being to force them to offer peace) so I concentrated most of my navy and completely destroyed the fleets of Italy and England and blockaded them. No trade and the very serious risk of rampaging muslims invading their lands would surely make them think again.

I waited a couple of turns but no emersaries arrived - so I sent my own to again ask if they would agree to a ceasefire - again they said no. Grrrrrr. Must I really burn and defile all that you value to make peace????

Well there wasnt much I could do and the Bysantine navy was causing me grave problems in the eastern med, so while continuing the blockade on England and Italy with slightly fewer ships, I sent reinforcements to try and hold both Bysantia and Egypt at bay.

A few turns later I noticed a new Italian ship had appeared off their coast so I immediately sent the blockade ships to sink it, but lo and behold it was neutral I thought maybe I was going colour blind so I checked the alliances screen and except for England and France all my enemies were now neutral with me and the Turks still allied. But there was no notification that the war had ended, I dont even recall seeing any enemy emersaries in my provinces (they tend to meet with violent unexpected death when they visit http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ) - so I wonder what happened??? Is it a bug?

The only thing I can guess that may have affected it was the Victory Points were awarded the previous turn and my extra 14 points put me in first place. But why would my enemies suddenly go neutral on me without informing me?

Have any of you experienced this?

AFAIK ceasefire happens automatically if you don't have any common borders with your enemy or if your enemy turns into civil war.

If you do not share any borders with a country you are at war with, and also do not have any ships sharing a sea zone with them, wars will generally end by themselves. Or something like that, anyway... I've seen it happen many times myself. Guess they forget why they were mad at you after a while... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

Ahhhhhh thats very useful to know. Italy in particular had nothing to gain by war with me, it lost it's entire navy and two islands all because it got annoyed by my booming economy.

Now if only England would be more reasonable....

Just curious about one thing.

You say other emmisaries who visit, usually end up dead.
Maybe, if you wanted to sue for peace, you could have refrained from this for just awhile. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
At least until after they signed on the dotted line. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

As the Egyptians I've been keeping the Almohads and the Spanish on "reservations" (in Granada and Leon, respectively). They seemed to resent the confinement http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif and were at war with me. I let the Almohad troops build up to about 500, then sent in an army to prune them. Smashed the army, looted a bunch of their structures, but I abandoned the province to the survivors. The next year I "lost" the province to the Almohads...who were now at peace with me. Now you might THINK they'd want a ceasefire after that... No notice, by the way.

No notice when Spain decided the war was over, either. I just noticed all of a sudden that I had trade revenue from Leon.

It seems theres always one faction who the entire world is at war with. I try to make sure it's one of the AI factions (usually France or HRE) because once you're at war with several enemy factions it's very difficult to get peace. I also notice that if an AI faction is at war with me and other factions, they will plead with me for peace. If you're at war with several factions, the AI figures you're an easier target becuase they dont risk breaking alliances to attack you and you're fighting the combined strength of several factions.

When I find myself in the situation, I usually force peace by wiping out the weaker factions either by taking their provs or targeting their royal line and I use spies to start rebellions in the provs of stronger enemies. Usually those factions will accept a ceasefire if they suffer from internal discord. Once you are not at war with more than one faction, other factions are more likely to ally with you and you can work on not falling into the role of public enemy # 1 again.

War with everyone is a real killer for trade. Build up your farming/mining income and raid enemy provs.

i have a situation where the whole world is at war with me with one or two neutral exceptions. Its not really a problem as i am the most powerful kid on the block and still have a postive income with farms and such.

The whole world against me thing just happened quite recently.

Everything was going well with only the byz at war with me. (i did drive them out of constantinople so i can understand them being a little upset)

All other factions were happily trading with me. then those little upstart italians decided to start sinking my naval vessels around venice and genoa. so of course being the pacifist sultan that i am i decide to grind 3 or 4 of their provences into dust as revenge.

this sets off a chain reaction of wars with a the entire catholic world as the pope declared me a enemy to all catholics. Pretty soon the orthadox provences are having a go as well. And my muslim brothers the almoheads launch a suprise attack on my provence of egypt which i barely beat back.

After burning to the ground a few german and some more italian provences and killing off the sicilans for good measure i decide to withdraw my army from the italian pennisula and ask for cease fires.

so far not having much luck with getting the world to calm down and start liking me again http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

i will try withdrawing my ships from sea zones bordering other empires and see if that does the trick because my only land borders are constantinople, georgia and egypt.

Yeah, it was those pesky Italians that kicked off my world war too. I'd had peace for maybe 50 years after massacring the Spanish whom seemed to think, for some odd reason, they had a right to live in the Iberian peninsular. After that brief bloody war I switched to trade and castle building (to keep the other Catholic and Egyptian factions at bay). I was expecting some back lash from France or England but they had got bogged down in a war with each other while my empire quietly grew.

The Aragonaise in an act of desperation to expand (they had only 1 province) launched an all out attack against me which ended in a disaster and their king was killed in battle. Afterwards I occupied the 'rebel' remains of Aragon before France could.

And then decade upon decade of peace. I built up everything nicely, had a huge army and economy. One brief skirmish into rebel occupied Malta which after a subsequent uprising (and a full 3 stack uprising too&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif I abandoned and burnt to the ground. Thank god the docks werent destroyed when i invaded

Then the Italians turn pirate on me and all hell breaks loose. Egypt attacks. France sends a crusade. Ships everywhere are attacking anything that floats. The Italians have to be punished http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

This happened to me too. I was the Byzantines. I was allied with everybody except 2 factions, and they were neutral. World Peace was boring, though. The Turkish sent an assassin to kill one of my generals. I promptly took Antioch from them. The next turn was very nice to me. I was sent many messages saying that all my allies were unallying from the Turks.

So I started the siege of Tripoli, which suddenly involved the Almohads unallying, which meant that the Germans attacked the Almohads, which made Italians attack Germany, which made Danes attack Spain which made Hungarians and Polish start a war with me. Suddenly WWI started prematurely. Italians were wiped out. Hungarians gone, Spain gone, andthe Canes gone within 10 turns. I luckily stayed alive. I wonder what will happen next.
