I've been noticing some really wiered things in this game, its ibn battuta throwing his goods in Khazar(mongol controlled territory)and Marco Polo helping the egyptians trade boomwas that historically correct?i mean Marco polo should dump his goods in Italy and Ibn Battuta in morroco,if i am not mistaken they orignated from there too.
iv never came across any historical figues in my campagin time.

No me neither. What units are they? Are they generals boats or emisaries? I am keen to hear more.
What?
You haven't seen Strongbow Fitzgerald? Or Bohemond de Tankerville? Or Nur-al-Din? Or Henry the Lion? or... or...
Trust me you have seen plenty of historical figures, you just don't know them. There are 30 something historical figures for the Italians alone....
Yeah, I have seen Bohemond de Tankerville and first thing I did was marrying my princess to him. If I could do that more often, I would. That guy has quite low loyalty...

Marco Polo is only a message saying he returned from the east and brougt new trade stuff to Egypt.
BTW, I once fought a famous rebel in Scotland: William Wallyas http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif
David, then try and let Wessex or Northumbria go rebel... Guess who you might have to fight. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

i've got a 5-star italian emissary called marco polo - royal weddings a speciality.
but in terms of the in-game event of marco polo, i guess the fact that he opens the trade route via the eastern mediterranean, but yeah, you would have thought that the italians would have benefitted as well.

i believe that the marco polo event just provides new trade items to the ports of the east. and this is realistic since marco polo just made some items known to the italians , they still had to buy them through the eastern ports , so there is no reason for them to be benefited.

I had Wallace lead a rebellion against me too It was quite a serious battle and caused me a lot of casulties so Wallace was sent to London to be hung drawn and quartered http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif He wont be doing that again. The other scots prisoners were set free - I prefer to ransome prisoners on the whole unless I am heavily outnumbered by the enemy and (like at Agincourt) I dont have enough army to guard all the prisonors. In that case the unfortunates are all put to the sword. The exception is when I am betrayed by an Ally. Traitors have no mercy from my armies.
I've seen a few other famous people too, certainly Henry the Lion and Strongbow Fitzgerald (although i'm not certain who these characters are in history) - I also think I had a famous English bishop once, he started out with 2* and although I cant now remember the name I'm sure he was historical.
Asmodeus that would be Thomas Becket, 3 Stars. He is a good way of getting alliances for the English early on.

I think what may be happening here is that you're seeing historical characters in two different ways.
Firstly, there are characters who can be game pieces. They appear either as rebels, should a rebellion happen in their home province in the right "time window" - so a rebellion in Scotland will produce a William Wallays (an alternative spelling of his name) at the right sort of time, in the same way as there will also tend to be Vlad Tepes in Wallachia towards the very end of the game if the conditions are right for him to appear. You can have generals, bishops, emissaries, ulama (imans and alims) as famous characters, btw.
Secondly, some characters were included as historical events in the game because this was felt to be a valid (better) way of covering their effects on history.
Thus William Wallays appears as a general. He could also have been handled in the gameplay as a "Scottish Rebels Under Wallace" event, but we thought it was more interesting to have him in play. Marco Polo could have been a diplomat/emissary, but his major impact is in going to China and the court of Kublai Khan. His impact is off map, and therefore handled as a reported event.
Hope that makes things clearer.

i was quite surprised to see him but.....Robin of Locksley...... aka Robin Hood http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
that was the only time ive let any rebels go free http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
In the early game at 1087, you can bribe "El Cid". He appears as a rebel leader in Valencia at the beggining of the game. Another is Godfred of Bouillon, who is the first christian king in Jerusalem after the conquest of the city in the first crusade.

I remember hearing about an assasin that started off with several stars..... not sure about the name, though. Is there any sort of list of historical figures that appear in the game?
I had a 5 star assasin floating around named guy de something, I sent him to kill marco polo which he did. I also tried to bribe robin hood but he was a drunk so I did not. Other historical figures I have probably not noticed.
