Any1 finding the English early campaign cool?? coz I don't...just so boring.....play the Turks in early and u'll see.
Oh,and another one,do u use the wedge for infantry?

P.S. I'm a gonna continue my series of periodical posts on different unit types...

Well havent played the English but I've probably ruined myself by playing the muslims and Byz factions first. As for the wedge, only use it for spent archers from behind the enemy for the extra boost.

Indeed Turks are fun and hard...

English is only boring if the HRE is weakened and the Spanish have a standoff with the Almohads. If the HRE is strong you will face her great armies quite fast, and when you are deepest into the mud with them the Almohads (or Spanish) desides to attack you from the south. That situation can potentially become a legend in your Empire.

I've mainly played England and HRE on early for around the first 100 years and then I get bored. I play relatively pacific GA games, not attacking great powers. They are very different sides to play: HRE has so many battles (French, Danes and Italians all attack you at some point). England has relatively few fights: the French can be deterred and you can pick off rebels, while working towards crusades. The latter is tougher post patch, as it seems the Spaniards almost invariably get to the Holy Land first. Pre-patch, I enjoyed England as I find too many battles a strain (slow computer + limited gaming time) - not so sure post-patch.

I quite like the 'uniting the British isles' bit, the Scots all ways cause big problems. In fact I find the French easier to defeat than the Scots I also like the English unique units and strategic position but the GA score bug always annoys me to much so I play Danes, Polish or one of the muslim factions mainly.

I too have ruined myself by playing as the Byz Empire. I have tried other factions, but usually quit and start a Byz campaign.

English campaign was pretty uneventful
for me.

My Russian campaign, on the other hand,
is both challenging and fun. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I'm having fun so far, early with Spain. Currently warring with the Almohads. Fighting Almohad Urban Militia for the first time was a rude awakening to say the least. If it weren't for my Order Foot Soldiers and Knights of Santiago...

Ahh and Spanish Jinettes... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif

Anyway, I'm finding Spain challenging and fun.

First campaign I played was with the English. It is a nice facrion to begin with cause it isn't so hard Also the units are the most recognizable (don't even know if that is a real word... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif ).

Have played a couple of English campaigns one when I was learning so plenty of mistakes. Last one was on expert and I had captured every single proving by 1320 - only real highlight was a mishandled invasion of Spain and subsequent retreat and final humilitating defeat in Castile.

One funny thing was I never lost control of Portugal even though I had no troops there and Almohads and Spaniards didn't go near it until I had reoccupied it 10 years later. It didn't even go rebel http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif I expected to lose it straight away

But while I like the English troops (billmen rule&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif it was too easy. Having a lot more trouble on my Egyptian campaign and want to try Turks next as i like the look of their hybrid units.

The English are pretty boring compared to the Turks (which is my favorite faction coz all the variety of units)... Their spot on the map is a little dull compared to the rest of the factions starting positions.

What do you mean boring? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

I have never had so much fun, matching up longbowmen with billmen http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif and some cavalry, and littering France with "minced hedgehogs".

It might have been a bit easy perhaps, but boring? Nah

Boring??

Try playing to the GAs and not expanding in Europe, but setting up trade and sending crusades to the East that is fun..

Also the Western civilizations tend to get more fun with time, whereas an eastern campaign is all madness at the beginning (early), especially the Turks.. But once you have the upperhand, then rest of the game is pretty straight forward..

But any faction, playing to the GAs and winning is quite hard...

Turks are fun, but they are more fun when you start in the high period and the Mongols arrive in 25 years. I have 2 personnal favorites, the French and the Turks. France has so many vulnerabilities in the beginning that it takes a lot of thought on how to cope with them all. I like that sort of challenge. And then the reward if you start well is all that fabulous farming and Flanders for trading.

I think the hardest faction in early is Poland. What with the Byz, the Germans, the Mongols and the Russians all trying to take you out it is very hard to do well.
