RIP.
This is not just a loss for his friends and family but for the entire world. A visionary who didn't waver in face of terrible adversity. Can't think of a much better role model for mankind.

That's a fitting honor--to be buried there.
But I wonder if he would be alright with it, knowing of him. I hope he wouldn't have minded.

As an Englishman, I am sure he would be cognizant of the honor. If spiritual, he'd likely appreciate the sense of sanctity. If he was not spiritual but completely atheistic, he probably wouldn't have cared less.
Pretty much a no lose thing I would guess.
Newton and Darwin both got that honor, Hawking's work will stand up reasonably well next to theirs.
