Died today at age 92 after several years with COPD and Grave's disease.
She was very much a FLOTUS of the old school, and I do not think we will see her like again.

"Why should we hear about bodybags and deaths? It's not relevant. So why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that?"

Say nothing right now if you have nothing positive to say about her.

She actually appears to have been a relatively nice lady oligarch.

This came to mind when I saw this thread.

Must admit that is pretty horrifying, completitly out of touch

Poorly phrased perhaps. She was speaking in context of media mis-focus/not having the whole story. Wasn't the "let 'em eat cake" quote Showtime makes it out to be.
Oligarch? Certainly she came from some wealth and married into old money. Oligarchic elements in the USA don't have quite the sway of the Roman Senatum and the Ordo Equestor though. Starting off with a top tier education and a goodly pile of money does come in handy when building one's career though, gotta admit that.

I view the US as a whole as an oligarchy and therefore everybody in a position of power or wealth is an oligarch. ~;p
But even oligarchs can come in different shades of gray.

The Senate and the People of Hom(ies).

The why don they eat cake example is probably a fluke, but this was documented. There is something not quite right if you say something like that, the weight must be hard and I can understand that but at a certain point should understand when you simply do not understand things anymore. The USA is a bit different from the Netherlands, nobody takes any interest in private lives, maybe better, maybe not. But that remark sounds kinda off
