wow
Very much a Gladiator replay, but well worth it I think.
I was suprised the Roman general didn't yell "Tela Tendete" when the archers were about to fire. They have it in Medieval now.
WOW movie is excelents a real teaser is it all a video clip or is some ingame?

well the official word is that the graphics are actualy those of the games except for the faces witch where prerendered but still its gonna be a beuatifull game.
That is exactily what I was afraid of http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif Legioners without pilums The main reason I wanted to play Romans was because legioners were both mlee and missile troops, without pilums they are common heavy infanty http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
Archers in roman troops ??? Who are they ??? Romans (at least western) didn't use bows, though they may had allied archers...And what the hell they are forming trutle for ? No one shooting at them...

The important thing to bear in mind is that the intro is all in-game engine-no FMV at all. Only the facial expressions have been added for the intro, to give it more character. All of this is from PC GAMER.
They are in turtle because it looks bloody good on a promotional clip http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif

the game isn't even out and already the forum is being hammered by threads about historical accuracy in promo pics and such. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif
more info is always forthcoming, so try not to be too personally insulted by the appearance of elephants, tetsuos, and movie paradoxes. things always change.
Hmmm do I detect a sence of humor lol http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

New patron caelio replies from the Entrance Hall:

Yeah, blatant copy of gladiator and braveheart.
And just as innacurate- lets hope the game isn't so derivative and stupid.
My gripes:
Archers were not particularly import units in Roman armies, and they definately weren't composed of legionares, as it appears they were in the intro. Archers were auxilia units, and in most cases were used to distract and break up tight formations of spearmen to make them more susceptible to attack from the Roman heavy infantry. Like slingers, they were not expected to inflict a great deal of casualties. The principal missle weapon in the roman army (until the 4th century) was the javelin...
...which in the intro was totally unused. Instead the maniples went into tortuga formation. Why? So the men back ranks could protect their heads from a charge from a group of swordsmen. ??? Caesar would have been pissed to see us fighting gauls like that, even on our computers.
Of course I can't wait and will be the first one to buy a copy.

They can use the Korean skirmisher's graphics and animations for the "throwing pilums" thing.
Just an idea.

Well, the Creative Assembly Rome team are just that: a team of people working on Rome: Total War. No need to worry about "unofficialness" after all. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Oh ye of little faith http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
Just because you didn't see something in the very first material released, don't be too sure that it isn't in there And just because you did see something: remember that this is a taster of the kind of action that the game includes for non-Roman experts too.
We know that Roman legionaires had pila to throw at the enemy before they closed with the sword. It's not in the movie, that's all. And the testudo is there precisely because it looks cool and shows what the game engine can do. And it impresses the hell out of me, I can tell you.
I don't think anyone is going to be disappointed come release...
