Some weird stuff

I'm playing the Byzantines and for some reason, Bedouin Camel Warriors routed my troops quite a few times yesterday. I avoid them using cavalry and attack them with Byz infantry and Varangian Guard. Even in Antioch, which is arid if invaded from Lesser Armenia, they still routed my infantry easily. My general has no morale penalties and is equally ranked.

Also, I stormed a castle and my rank 5 general became rank 7. Has anybody else experienced that? He had the same +1 defense bonus before and after so he really did gain 2 ranks.

Oh yeah, the HRE used civil wars and stuff in their nice royal breeding program. They managed to produce a king with 0 piety, 0 dread, 0 command and 0 acumen. I've seen some with low stats, I even had a few when playing the Egyptians, but that takes the case for utter crap.

What Valour did the Byz Inf and the Varangian Guard have? Also the Bedouin Camel Warriors? I had the same thing happen to me when I was playing the Almos. I invaded Egypt and 2 Bedouin Camel Warriors routed my Nubian spearmen.. but later found out that they were Valour 4. It can depend on their Armour and Valour etc...

He probably had the "Expert Attacker" virtue, which adds two stars on the attack.

Nah. I got an event message saying he became rank 7 after the battle.

The valor is at least 3 since my general is rank 6-7.

Beduin camels are not to be underestimated.
They may be only light cavalry, but they have a pretty good melee.
Maybe there is a coding screw up and their bonus versus horses is actually being applied to ground troops too?

Camels also get a terrain bonus in the desert +1 attack and +1 defense, also fear of camels comes into play when using cav. +4 defense for camels against horses and +2 attack for camels against horses . http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Hmm in an Egypt campaign (which I think I will never finish) I have some BCWs (Bed Camel Warriors:p ), round valor 7-8, they rout everything in sight usually. They are veterans of the Mongol Invasion. They did so well in the desert against the Mongol cavalry that they won about 2 valor points each battle. Now they are really, truly elite, second only to the Valor 11 Ghulam bodyguards of the commander who defended against the Mongol invasion.

Careful though as all it needs is a few units of arbs to take care of these guys.
