Everything was going great for my English empire. I had destroyed the French, and the Aragonese, I had both my farming and trading maxed out and I had great income.
I had a new king who took over at the age of 32 with high command and acumen ratings.
But, he didn't have any kids. ANY kids. Not even daughters. So, after 25 or so years my empire plunged into civil war (the king's dad had 6 heirs). And half of the expensive, advanced soliers that I had been building to defend an invasion became my enemies with one button click.
I really think that the computer cheated me. Things were going so well, then my king didn't have even one son... what a rip...

I know how you feel I was playing Spain and Really did have a panic when my 60 year old king came to the throne with 4 children, all girls. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
In this day and age it wouldn't be such a bad thing, but he did have a son the next year...
However, the old king lived until he was 2 years away from maturing and then the old codger popped his clogs and let my massive empire rip itself to pieces.
Laugh? I nearly Died Laughing.
Jrex sounds like you had a faerie on the throne, though you didnt say if he was married. Either way id have to marry within the family and get some heirs. Havent had much trouble gettings heirs, though i get the mutants of the world it seems.

There were occassions in history when this happened as well. Although your King was rather young when he took the throne, I am surprised he had no heirs. I've had the same situation, but it was becuase my heir became King at a late age and there was no time for him to have heirs (this was before I started making it a point to marry off my heirs to princesses at a young age)
Look at it as a challenge. Your new King can boast he quelled a civil war brought about by his treacherous brother who had no legitimate claim to the throne. After 'saving' his kingdom, he conquered the world

I dont know if u guys do this much but recently ive started marrying all my daughters to my generals to improve their loyalty to the king and it seems to stop most civil wars..i cant remember the last time i had 1. As for the king not producing any young chaps 2 take over the throne..its a shame no1 has made a mod which adds a pharmicist to the building queue which could sell medieval viagra http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I wish I had this problem http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif
Right now I just get overrun by heirs Far more than I need. Titles get somewhat useless when all your generals are heirs...

It was a lot of fun to put down a civil war, it's just a pain in the butt.

Thanks to eat cold steel, in another thread, we now know that there's a cheat - .unfreeze - that gives a new son. Normally I don't like cheats but this is one that I might be tempted to use.

Have had this happen. I had a really old king that was married but never had any kids. I assassinated all but the best "brother" in line of succession and once my king died, I was able to hold the empire together because I only had one heir. He then had four sons. Sucks to lose all those heirs and good generals but better to keep the empire together in my opinion.
Always keep an eye on your family tree. ( I write one down myself as I go along so I always know whos next in line and whos of royal blood).
