The political aspect of the plan have been released, but its future is not bright. Countries like SA and UAE have welcomed it, but that's pretty much all the positivity in the Arab world.

IMO the plan is completely unworkable and is probably used as a distraction from Trump and Netanyahu, so that they can draw public attention away from the problems they face domestically. It's not a question of harshness, because Palestinians don't really have any card to play, but the borders of the state, as well as its the various limitations imposed on it, will simply prevent it from operating normally.

I don't understand the spitting off of territories - that's a bit geographically complicated to make it work because of the territories split apart.

Every plan for a Palestinian State going back to 1947 was basically this, it's just that the amount of land they have been offered keeps shrinking. The fact of the matter is that any plan makes both Palestine and Israel non-viable.

Notably, Israel is apparently being asked to give up land near the Egyptian border in return for scraps of the West Bank and the entire Jordanian border.

I think Jarad Kuschner and the Israelis worked hard to craft a plan that they could present in good faith with a straight face, but it was designed to be rejected. Once rejected, or even if counter-offers are laid, the Trump and Netanyahu administrations will claim the lack of unconditional acceptance as justification for abandnoning a 2-state solution approach.

The part that struck me was the sovereignty of settlements deep inside the Palestinian territory above and beyond the parts of the West Bank being ceded to Israel. Particularly striking is the inclusion of planned future settlements which the Palestinians must agree to accept.

This is what's known in my sphere of business as a "Japanese NO". Rather than directly negating a request, simply condition it upon unacceptable conditions.

Edit: I missed the true poison pill... what's being offered is limited Palestinian statehood with no defensive capability and which must grant unlimited right of access to the IDF. Nobody expects this plan to be accepted.

Actually, the article says that Saudia Arabia is not on board. With all the favors Trump has provided to the Kingdom, right down to helping MBS cover up the murder of a Washington Post journalist, I find that quite surprising. According to your article, it was only UAE, Oman and Bahrain that have endorsed the plan. Not even Kuwait.

The Saudi family has lots of simmering tension at home. Even if they DO favor the plan, public statements such as that could well earn them a crap-storm at home.
