Any news on any new non-playable factions in the expansion?

You probably know this, but in the original version you can still play the supposedly non-playable factions, just go into startpos folder/file and change the minor factions to major factions and then you an play em. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Yes, it seems that the "new faction" ploy has been used. A couple of us predicted it. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

Right, but no chance of playing as the Novgorod in Early I would assume (with the expansion). http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif

I believe the Aragonese, the Sicilians, and the Hungarians will be added as playable factions. They will also be given thier own faction-specific units, so this won't just be allowing you to do "offically" what you can already do by modding the game.

I heard that some of the non-playable factions will be playable, I`m asking if anyone knows about any new non-playable factions, like Lithuania, the Kipchaqs, the Timurids, Moldavia-Wallachia, it would also be nice to have separate Novgorod and Kievan factions.

MiniKiller

Hey uhh the file is big, where does it give a list of the factions and if they are minor or major? do i just change the word minor to major? i guess u didnt give enough info lol http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif umm good u copy past the lines i need to fix? thanks so much.

All factions can be played in any era. I didn't really enable all to make a balanced set of SP campaigns, but 2 sets of the 3 are (one is essentially the default one with all factions present enabled, the other has also mongols added). I'm sure that any of the modders will come with a balanced campaign for all 20.

This is actually something for the modforum, but in short:
just changing minor into major (use find function in word) can do the trick. Make sure that a faction is viable: land, king, religion, money.

So if I just change the minor factions to read major factions i will get to use them aswell and hte map will be set just like it origanally was?

I only see one part that says minor factions, is that it? if i change that to major factions there will still be another section just above it that says major factions aswell, hope that makes sence, I am very computer illeterate lately, dunno why, lol to much wake time http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

MiniKiller

Ok, I did it, I now can use 16 faction's in custom battles, although the only extra ones are

The Hungarians
The people of Novgord
The Papacy
The Sicilians

How can I get The Golden Horde and the other 3 factions in custom battles? thanks

MiniKiller
01-23-2003, 02:30

You could download ^ and add them to the campaigns you already have.

MiniKiller
01-23-2003, 03:37
What do you mean? I got em all for campaign casue I started a new one in each period, just to check and I could choose from anyone one the map, cept the rebels, but in custom battles i dont get those 4 above. sorry if its so obvious i dont see the answer, lmao http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I can't judge from here. Are you sure that all factions are indeed playable in the campaign? They may be selectable, but not really pop up in the campaign because they lack a king or units.

Just changing minor into major isn't enough for all factions: eac needs land, a king in one of the provinces, money, religion, behavior, units, maybe heirs.

MiniKiller
01-24-2003, 02:01
Well how many total are there? All I did was change minor to major and I got to choose from 8 new nations (of course not all 8 in every campaign, like 3 in one, 4 in another like that) and they were

The Hungerians
The people of Novgord
The Papacy
The Sicilians
The Russians
The Swiss
The Aragones
The Golden Horde

Granted I never tried them yet but they all appear as selectable in the clan select screen with starting postions and milita units. I guess I will try them and see if they work, however in custom battles I only get the top 4 I just listed, I cant choose the bottom 4. Thanks again and sorry I am not to savy with this stuff http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

As TosaInu said, to make minor playable, you need to mod land, a king in one of the provinces, money, religion, behavior, units, heirs.

More info can be found in dungeon.

But through my experience, I can tell some are "not safe" to mod.

The Hungerians - OK
The people of Novgorod - *1
The Papacy - OK
The Sicilians - OK
The Russians - *1
The Swiss - *2
The Aragones - OK
The Golden Horde - *2
The Burgundians - *2

*1 Novgorod and Russians share Kings. So that you may need to change starting King.
i.e. I moded high.txt file to put Novgorod, but it didn't work. So I changed the first number of king parameter, which worked.

*2 Those are dangerous to mod, at least in my experience. I modded them to playable, but after many years, game just crashed.

Please check dungeon for how to mod.

Hey I've got a question about playing as the Papacy... Sounds stupid but since you should be the Pope if you're playing as the Papacy, will the Pope do anything if you attack fellow Christian factions?

MiniKiller
01-24-2003, 23:00
Thanks I will

Good question, I was wondering that to.
