casualty question

so here's the deal:
when i run my naginata cavalry into the korean spearmen, i get the same number of enemy casualties (roughly) using both a
tight formation as an arrow-head formation.
in the old game, the attack formation of a unit made a difference, now it seems less so. any ideas?

The real question is why is the same true with charging ND into those spearmen!

actually nowadays i find myself posting strictly for the old-timers' amusement.
the rule is: if you're confused then the post wasn't meant for you.
anyway, those korean spearmen arent the same as the yari spear in quality, so cav charges into them operate on a slightly different strat plane.
also, since it's well known that now that the expansion is out (for some anyway) the expansion forum is going to be gotten rid of and fused back with the general forum, this is the appropriate place to ask this question.

There are so many variables that could come in to play that the question is impossible to answer even if we had the game - which we do not!

How deep were the lines of spearmen; ground flat?;honour of both?; fatigue etc etc etc.

Does this only work on charging in to spearmen? Try wedge and closed on different groups against different groups and see if it makes a difference. Perhaps your attacking unit was not receiving the bonus? Who knows, but I am sure we are going to find out sometime this millenium.
