Org,

I'm experiencing an issue with reinstalling Windows. One of the registries got corrupted and it caused some issues with the fans, so I was forced to reinstall Windows.

Windows didn't format my HDD but it put everything in Windows.old folder, which was great because I kept all my files. However, reinstalling the same applications also means that I have those apps doubled, and they don't recognise the information from the computer. Also, it causes some issues - for example I cannot reinstall Origin, because the registry still recognises Origin as installed. NVidia also recognises other games installed.

How can I solve this?

Just reinstall the applications and transfer the saved files / documents?

You can send the files from the Windows.old folder to their correct directory in your current windows (https://www.howtogeek.com/130558/how-to-restore-your-files-from-the-windows.old-folder-after-upgrading/). There's also a windows application you can download to restore the files, but the article is old, so I don't know if it will work with Windows 10.

Has anyone upgraded to Windows 11? Is it worth the effort?

I switched to Windows 11 and didn't notice any difference.
