Alrowan,
Let me give you a big compliment for the castle maps you have made.

Let me see..
Large maps ofc http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
A bit like flatinlands and some of the hillyinlands. No hills big enough for 2 or more armies to camp on. No hills in the corners. Always make it possible to flank a good defensive position. Maybe some very steep hills but also very small so only a few units can be on it, basically something worth taking/defending.
Maps that force the defender to move forward and not just stand back in one big line and with lots of room to maneuver/outflank
Oh yeah and make 100 of them...or more http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Large, smooth hills. Do not try to make the hills as complex as flatinland, but smooth and large. Also, add more cliffs. A whole lot of little cliffs would be nice.
Alro great work on your castle maps
For battle maps, here's what comes to mind:
-more Sandy Desert maps, certainly don't have enough of those
-hills, defensible, worth taking for both defender & attacker
-pre built defensive positions worth taking, something with stakes in the ground, Maybe a hut or two around, some tree cover nearby.
-large as possible naturally
-for late era games some offensive positions to attackers advantage, which encourage the defender to move or redeploy, e.g artillery positions
-some steppe, flatinland maps which basically have some dangerously open spaces scattered inbetween flat land with fields
-more fog of war. some maps where the enemies cannot see all the opponents units due to terrain. a good example of this is bachsgambit2 (available@org) where there is a valeey in which neither side can see at deployment and must send scouts.
All I can think of at the moment, but I'd suggest making a mix of maps so that you have some with a lot of maeuver possibilty and some with fortified (natural = cliff) or man made (tents, stakes, houses, walls) positions.
Please more sandy desert maps pleeeeezee.

ahh... thanks, im starting to picture some now. All my maps i make are going to be large of course.. i hate small ones.
keep the ideas coming, and for CBR, if i can make 100 maps, i expect some kind of award or something http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
as long as my parents have thier way i wont be online as much, so it gives me more time to make more maps
ive just made an intersting map... called it the Dune sea... basically its a map loaded with dand dunes, with the easier gradients of them helping the attacker.. none of these dunes are big enough to hold more than one army either, and with some larger dunes in the middle, makes for some scouting issues if the defenders deploy back
Sounds good mate http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
ohh i should mention that all the map tips i mentioned are for MP maps of course. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
another 2 have been made.. at this rate they will be here for x-mas http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
How about designing maps that have the edges slope downhill, this way it force defenders not to camp i.e
well made some more maps... looks like this may turn out to be a lot of great looking landscapes... like monument valley http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
Any map that makes using the corner or edge a disadvantage is a good map. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

The type of maps I would like to see would be a nice defensive flat battle-field.
Somethink to make an attacker think. A good map for a 2v1 battle.
Somethink with obstacles, water, spikes and wagons....
I dont think spikes have been used enough.
What I would really like to see are trunchs in the ground, to stop cav charges, and pits. But it is my belief that this is not possible
So therefore but flat battlefields with plenty of obstacles to use.
well ive got a few of the more interesting and unique maps out of the way, now i can concentrate on more of the nitty gritty
