So... as the title suggest, does anyone here have experience of working as a freelancer?

I've considered swelling the ranks of freelancers lately as a mean to supplement the income I make monthly, looking particularly towards Fiverr and Upwork as the main platforms. Tried Toptal as well but that requires a specific set of skills aimed more towards the tech industry professionals like programmers.

Since I ran out of Netflix, books, video games & whatever whatnot because the pandemic has stopped me from going out & having fun instead, I was thinking of making it productive rather than playing Total War all night after work, so working more and making more income seems to be the desired outcome. At least for now.

Can anyone share experiences with these?

I did some side contract jobs last year, it can be good money but the most important thing is to know your own limitations. Sometimes the people offering the gigs underestimate how much work their task is, so ensuring that you arent burning yourself out or stretching yourself too thin is vital. Especially if you have a day job.

Did you do them on Fiverr / Upwork or did you have your own private clients?

A mix of both. I didnt really like the stuff I saw on Fiverr to be honest so I stuck with Upwork, but I also knew some folk who needed work done so I set that up on my own.

What sort of freelance work are you looking to do if you don't mind me asking

I thought I'd give an update on this as I did do some consultancy work over the past 2 years - setting up the company and getting the accounting properly done is a major annoyance, sometimes a nightmare, but it's nice to work as an independent sometimes.

Although accounting is still a nightmare.

I admire your courage. Starting on your own isn't easy. I had been thinking about it for several years. It's also risky when not knowing what needs to be done and not knowing what to watch out for. I know what you mean about the accounting. Various taxes can change within a year. The accounting needs to be done accurately. Otherwise, cops would come knocking at the door. I know someone who gets a tax accountant to find the tax rates.
