has any one had a similar experience to me.

AI is playing defender.
AI and me have been having a long missile contest.

The ai moves most of its troops into one space. ie the AI had 5 units of chiv knights and 2 hobilars and decided they would all look better if they were standing on top of each other. (all facing the same way, all in same formation, all in same space.)

it looks pretty funny. there is not a inch of space that is not taken up by a horse or rider.

what is the deal with this occurance ?
it has happended twice now to me in custom battles.

I've had exactly the same thing happen to me. I was in a long archery duel with the Mongols and he lined up his Heavy Cavalry behind his archers and a heap of Mongol warriers and peasants all crushed in together. It was such an inviting target that i sent my crossbowmen within arror range to rips great chunks out of him. I wish I'd have had some siege weapons handy, even a Balista would have caused shocking casualties - it'd be like Mongol Kebabs on skewers.

Happens a fair bit in Campain battles . I think it is some sort of coding oddity . I understand it when it is archers with spears , or even archers with Cavalry if you have Cavalry closeish , but when the A.I. decides to just bunch the lions' share of his Knights into one convienient arrow-magnet ... coding oddity is my guess .

Yes, I have seen it happen. I guess it's a coding oddity. Once, such a heap is targeted with archers: even the ordinary archers get hundreds of kills per the set of ammo they have...

On another note, it seems that when you let archers stand inbetween your spears the archers really don't know what they are doing. The spears will take heavy "friendly fire casualties"... I guess another coding oddity...
