I recently completed a first round test of a Swiss mod I am working on , in the campaign my faction leader has decent stats and while I always keep track of my monarchs age I wanted to see how far I could go without intervening .Well he lasted a very long 87 years the longest I have seen yet and although he had heirs lined up the drawback was after his succesor took over he died 3 turns later. So my question is what would you do in a similar situation ,your faction leader is a good general , with decent all around stats when do you intervene ?

I'm sorry I can't help you, but I don't ever kill any of the royal family. If there is Civil War, so be it. It is definitely winnable and you usually end up with a good new king.

i said somthing about this in my first post. when you have a great "Warrior King" wait untill he reaches about 60. then launch a crusade against somebody. it dosent matter who, and it doesnt matter if it will succeed or not. Put ur king into the Crusade. Most of the time he will not desert it. when u start to do battle then send him into the thick of it. if he dies then he would have died on the Battlefield, Not in some room in the Palace about to die of a sickness

I almost always intervene to ensure that I get the best heirs available. If your next in line has poor stats, but his younger brother is better, then send the useless prince into an unwinnable battle, and make sure he gets surrounded and killed.
Old powerful kings are great, but as you've noticed, their successors tend to be pretty old when they take the throne http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
Still, if you've weeded out the dead wood in the royal family, and the sons have won a few battles, then even if the oldest son doesn't last too long, his brothers should be up to the job.
Keep a couple of five star assassins around, just in case you need to intervene in the natural line of succession http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smokin.gif
I would only intervene with the turks. They pop out like rabbits but they are not that good. I once had 5 heirs in a row http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif
Last night i had poor heirs but had one 5 star who was 3rd in line so i killed the first two and he got crowned unfortunatly he had no children but the next in line was a 4 star and he had 3 6 stats children so my line is quitw secure now
I am playing an early, hard, french campaign and my first king lived to be 87. When he died his son, who was 55, took over the throne. I thought I was screwed but that sucker went and had 6 sons, all fairly good too. Must have married a sweet young wife who knew how to please her man.

woah hey there mary, haven't seen you in awhile now, of course I pretty much only hang out at the tavern now, lots of good spam there http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. As for your king sword, I usually "prune" my royal family appropriatrly if you know what I mean, so doesn't really matter to me what you do with the oldies.
