Watching that replay was alot of fun, and a learning experience I think http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

I dunno about Chiv sargeants, their lower valor really seems to be a factor in close battles. I saw Gregoshi's (i think) running away when the one unit still had 78 men. Chiv sargeants seem unreliable, but I'm sure there was a good reason that you all had them.

That was a safe guess about the routing Chiv sargents being mine. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

I pick units based on a whim at the moment. It's like going food shopping when you are hungry - you grab everything off the shelf. Though I strive for a somewhat balanced army, I sometimes end up with interesting armies. I played soly the other night and when I got to the battlefield, I realized I had no missile units. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif

I never want to get to the point where I have a "standard" army. I also shy away from "must have" units like the pav arbs(?) that everybody thinks they must have in their army.

Of course, maybe that is one of the reasons I lose all the time. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/dizzy.gif

Come one, folks, don't let sly Gregoshi sucker you in with that old hook. You fall for his ruse and he'll take your money. Sort of like the sharks that are "learning to play poker" but manage to draw perfect suits every hand....

soly was an easy mark. My constant barrage of "I suck" lured His Newbie-ness into overconfidence. Mith, you helped set him up too with your joking about how bad I am to cover up your own humiliating defeats. Thanks.

Now, soly is a heck of a nice guy and wanted to be easy on me, so he sets up a 2000 florin game so I need not over tax my brain with too many units. Sucker So we begin. The map has a beach to my left and wooded hills to my right. I play the fool, keep on the flat and advance. I spy his army on the hill flanking me through the woods. I pretend to ignore it until his archers open up. I waste precious time by sending him a message: "Oh, you nasty man" My next move was critical. So I selected my whole army to wheel right, cleverly using a group formation that placed my entire army in column formation 2-3 men wide. "Ooops" is the message I send to soly. Needless to say, my men didn't stand a chance. The wailing Almohad's of soly smashed into me and my army decided to run. I messaged soly: "My army must think they stand a better chance against the sharks in the ocean." Let that ego inflate soly, let it inflate http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/flirt.gif

He was set up good. Now was the time for the kill - time to up the stakes. In the foyer:

soly: gg
Gregoshi: Yeah, right. You had me good from the flank.
Gregoshi: Now I know what it feels like to be in prison.
soly: that's not a pretty picture you're painting greg
soly: play another? you can defend this time.
Gregoshi: I don't know...
soly: listen, at low florin, you can't get good troops
Gregoshi: Really? all my men run so easily I hadn't noticed
Hehehe, he's nibbling
soly: no, seriously, it is true. let's try it
get ready to set the hook...
Gregoshi: Well, would 12,000 florin be enough?
Gregoshi: I hear that is a popular amount.
soly: sure, let's do it I'll set up the game
YANK The hook has been set Yeeeehaaaa

As for that second battle, let's just say that soly was the Byzantines, but I was the one who gave him the byzness. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif

yeah. cheetah would have beaten Mith near the end if his CS were more reliable, they ran like little schoolgirls when they saw those chivalric knights. And they had 98 men in their unit left

Ah, this is the battle that convinced me that cavs are indeed overpowered http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have to add that those chiv srgts were very tired and without a general if I remeber correctly ...
needless to say I was still very angry when I saw them run ... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif

download the file, put it into the "Medieval Total War/Savegames/Battles" directory, then start MTW, click on Single player/View replays, select replay and enjoy http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
