who would u say are the toughest, gothic knights, lancers, late royal knights or crusader knights, also does anyone have the stats for crusader knights?
The crusader knights (except the nerfed Templars) have the same stats as the Chivalric ones, so they are inferior to the late period knights you mention (the crusades died out before the later period).
Late Royal knights are identical to lancers, but you get them in smaller units.
So that leaves lancers vs Gothic knights. The lancers have faster move and a better charge (8 rather than 4). The Gothic knights have AP weapons but a 4 melee rather than a 5. In a head on clash, my money is on the Gothic knights (I think the AP would give them a melee of 8 vs the lancers 4). But knights vs knights may not be the best match up (better to use cheaper foot?). For the kind of things I use knights for, ie flanking infantry, the lancers would be better.
In most campaigns, my knights are the best, because I always build up my cavalry in a province with iron as soon as I have one. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif But with the same morale and upgrades I think that Gothic Knights are a little bit better than Lancers because the charge bonus of the lancers works only for the first impact, if I got that right. Later on the Gothic Knights will kill the Lancers, I think.
