View Full Version : Insurbordinate units
I was just playing Shogun the other day. A mammoth custom battle, with me being Ronin, when I found my units stopped obeying my orders and were marching towards the enemy. I could not dissuade them from this course. Has anyone else experienced this occasional problem of insubordinate units?
Jon, do you mean a sudden movement of one single unit, such as a group of archer suddenly decided to move ahead by 10 feet?
I also experienced a lot of this problem. Usually it happens when the unit does not have a good view of the enemy (maybe just conincidence) because the place is crowded with another unit. So they just automatically decides to march away a bit to gain more fresh air. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif
I am not sure whether this is related to morale, but these bastids certainly do not respond to halt. I have to reassign a new destination to them to stop their stupid move. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/tongue.gif

if u put units on top of each other they will move and u won't be able to take control of them again untill they have finished. . .also if u go in red zone they do the same!

Put they guys on Hold Position and they won't move.
They won't chase the enemy to shoot on them.
They won't move backwards when attacked hand-to-hand.
A common tactic in MP is to lure missiles near the enemy's h-t-h units so that he can attack them and get rid of them. Put your missiles on hold position of evading this problem.

No, I mean just plain disobeying of orders, going in completely the wrong way! Thankfully, this problem has only occured twice.

if you try to move more then one unit at a time and they are far away from each other. They will end up going in wierd directions. Thats the only thing i can think of, other then what has already been mentioned

Might have been a problem caused by the map.

Also when attacking a castle, clicking a melee unit currently standing quite far to the castle and ordering it to attack the castle gate guardians, he will not proceed directly in a straight line to the enemy but will go to the left or right side of the castle then from there, they will climb up and then finally to the castle gate. This is frustrating when there are missile units firing at you from inside the castle.
In castle assaults I found many units ended up in the WRONG side of the wall... trying to climb in? This is the stupidest part of STW http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/mad.gif

Hi
yeah - this happened to me just the other day
I was in a 3v3, one of my allies had been routed, the other just decided to withdraw his troops(?????) so i was on my own against 3. now I wanted blood that day, so i tried to reorganise my troops to prepare an offensive against my two nearest foe, when the lag did become somewhat annoying. anyway, one of my monks started walking towards the enemy to my left - of his own accord, and one archer units took itupon himself to charge straight forwardsto take on an army themselves - now i know bloodlust but..
Nomatter what i did - i couldnt change these two guys minds. they just kept walking - i could issue orders to other units, but these guys - well, archers ran before contact, monks did get involved but not for long.
with this happening i thought best option to charge..argh - still sewing my limbs on!
I think it was just the lag or something that meant my clicks werent being recognised, but its first time ive seen it happen - and hopefully the last!

Greetings,
Nodachi units tend to do this as well on their own. The only thing that I notice when it happens is that the enemy gets too close on their own and that the units are "Impetous" Even when I try to make them leave the fight they tend to start leaving then go back and attack again.

I've only had units move when the occupied the same space. In other words I positioned them to close to one another. They seem to think that I don't know what I am doing! Can you beleive those dumb samurai!?

Yes, i've had (archer and yari samurai units esp) suddenly decide that they're tired with life and would prefer to end it all by marching idly into enemy musket fire....
I think the game gets bored, or something, and wants to spice the battle up a bit... Only known cure is to tell the inbred morons to go to a new position. Unfortunately, usually by the time 1) you've noticed their bid for eternal glory, and 2) they decide that they better actually follow your orders... half of them are dead.
I think its a built in feature to keep taisho on their toes, meself.....
