Ok. Playing as HRE, I easily took Ireland from Rebels a while back, and then realized my army was stuck there till I built a port http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/joker.gif . Anyway, I got excommunicated recently, and started attacking everyone I could, so I could at least do some damage before my exommed king died (he's 76&#33http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif. Anyway, Ireland was doin fine, no rebellions or anything, it was pretty loyal with my small 300-man army (which included two heirs). Then, suddenly, loyalty dropped 70% for no reason I had been excommed for years, but this one year they decided to have a christian uprising...And now there's a 900 man army there, with tons of hobilars and even knights templar These guys were never even conquered by England, yet they're using English Crusader knights? Anyway, I had a sweet heir in there with 4 stars (a lot for me), against their army with no stars. I tried to fight it out even outnumbered 3-1, but unfortunately with armies both less than 1000 3-1 didn't even count reinforcements, so it was pretty impossible. I lose an heir, and my other very god heir with valor 7 royal knights lost all except their general, and I saved only around 11 spearmen and peasants from the carnage. I took out only around 250 of their men, many with my lone general, who got up to valor 10 in the midst of battle, and destroyed whole units of hobilars while under fire from archers from both sides http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif . But I'm just annoyed about how powerful this army is. Now I'm going to reload (learning experience, really) and move another army in the turn after I retreat to the fort...hopefully take the country back, and once my king dies we'll be Catholic again so no problems.... I just want some Kerns and Gallowglasses, is that so much to ask?

You know, you do a lot of learning experience, really re-loads. If you want to keep Ireland so bad that you are willing to cheat yourself, why not just set the game to easy, mod your home province and Ireland to have ports, start with a huge army and ships, and move them in on the first turn? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Re-load if you want to, but don't try to justify it to the world. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Somehow you lost the sea link with Ireland (moved a ship you shouldn't have, moved the King somewhere where he was out of touch, or your ship route was blocked by an enemy.) This reduces loyalty in a big way in newly conquered regions. You must keep this in mind when doing island occupation--"how many troops do a I need to move in to maintain loyalty if contact with the King is broken or the current high influence/great builder/steward King dies and is replaced by a king with low influence/vices/no virtues." Reloads are useful for figuring out what happened in "learning campaigns", but they kill your campaign experience. I reserve reloads for major typo/key fumbles such as hitting "end year" at the *beginning* of a turn (when I intended to do a "save", LOL.) Perhaps in this instance you might have saved your heirs by selecting "abandon province" and ransoming them back--very expensive.

It must have been St.Paddy's day and your King cancelled the parade. ha ha haI was going to apologise on behalf of my Irrish bretheren but no...toughyou should have realised that along with Portugal, Ireland are probably the rowdiest people to control and population loyalty fluctuations are common. So what do ya do.well one thing ya could have done is maybe let the thing rebel and then but those lovely knights templar?hmm? you should note that Ireland was never fully conquered by the English/Normans until about 1700...Ironically Ulster was the most anti-english of Provinces..oh the Irony of history.Be smart. build a border fort type thing, convery the masses to your own religion and fire in a spy or two for anti-rebel alert.thats what they were for in Shogun so use them in MTW as well........
