We all heard that we can now play as some of the minor factions but does anyone know if there will be any entirely new unplayable factions? I sure hope there will be, especially to balance out the Eastern part of the map.
Factions that I think should appear: Bohemia, Lithuania, Vladimir (another Russian faction, I think Novgorod and Kiev should be independent as well) ,the Cumans ( the mongols used the fact that the Hungarians allowed the Cumans to take refuge in Hungary as a pretext for invading, they also warred against Kiev, and Byzantium), Moldavia-Wallachia-Transylvania (how can they have forgotten Vlad the impaler?), the Timurids ( another unforgiveable omission, Timur, the most successful military commander of the period defeated the Ottomans, Mamlukes, Knights Hospitaler, and the Golden Horde and their Russian allies, plus he used elephants at Ankara, Turkey in 1402, I guess since his Empire was quite fleeting, the Timurids should make an appearance like the current 'Golden Horde event'. I'd like to see the Holy Orders (Templars, Teutonics, Hospitalers, etc as separate factions as well since historically they were independent political organisations.

Doesn't Vikings start off in 800 or 900AD? Considering the start date for the game, some of those factions would be inappropriate.
The new campaign starts off in that time yes but they are also making additions to the old campaign. The new campaign only includes a large map of only England, Scotland, Ireland and Norway. So yeah, putting those factions there might be a tad inappropriate but I believe everyone is talking about the changes to the old map. Makes sense to add new minor factions to the old game though since they are going to make all the old "minor" factions playable (not like modders have been doing that forever anyway...). Now all I wonder is what, if anything, CA will change about the minor factions that they are going to make playable. Seems like Aragorn will need ALOT of help to make it even remotely possible to win.

i totally agree about the eastern part of the map .there was talking here about the lack of eastern factions and the eastern provinces which are too big.
some said that these provinces were too poor and low populated at that time , thing i really cand agree with.for example , in 1402 Bayazid Yldirim raise an 80.000 soldiers' army against TImur Lenk; this doesnt look to me as a army sustaind by an depopulated land.

Interesting.......
I would like to see.
Teutonic order
Almoravids
Burgundy
Brittany
Portugal
Scotland
Pomerania
Latin states
Lithuania
More Russians
- Rostov Suzdal
- Smolensk
- Polotsk
I'd really like to see a population aspect to Total War...

Burgundy? I'm pretty sure the Burgundians already are a legitimate minor faction; I distinctly remember getting a message once stating "the Burgundians have emerged" like you get when the Swiss arrive. I think their colors were sort of a light bluish shade or something like that.

teutonic knights - and burgundy
i wish that they would at least enstate burgundy as a playable faction or at least a competitor
i wonder why they left that out?

I'm all for adding more factions- but I think they would have to maybe break up a few of the larger eastern provinces to make it work well.

Mav3434 is right. The Burgundians are in there and only appear if the conditions are right (civil war in France, I'd guess).

Burgundians are there now, light blue and yellow as stated. All you need to play them is the 20 faction mod

Vlad the Impaler is more 1500-1600
Timurlenk was after the Golden Horde
The cumans they were present in 1200 in Moldavia

Axelthorn, Novgorod, Kiev, Vladimir etc were independant Russian principalities just as Castille, Aragon were. The Russian faction should be split into separate factions. Since you're Romanian I won't argue about Vlad Tepes but I think he was around in the 1400's. Timur-I-lenk was around in the late 1300-early1400's so would fit into the game fine.
