Question: What is the worst single turn (year) you have ever had in MTW. Mine was playing as Byzantines early, expert. I had invaded Algeria with my emperor and defeated the small Almohad garrison. However a large army moved by sea into Tunisia and sunk my ships in the region. With my emperor cut off from his main forces revolts sparked everywhere. Two-stack peasant rebellions occured in my European and Turkish provinces (except for Constantinople) and the Egyptians re-emerged in the rest. When the civil war hit two turns later after the death of my emperor in battle I decided to call it quits. Still up to then it was a fun game. Please post your own disapointing experiences. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

First campaign playing as English. Alomhads captured Navarre - I sent every unit I could get my hands on to relieve siege including king. I lost battle (I had to autoresolve as game was running too slowly at that time - too many trees & sea). My king ended up stuck in castle besiged by Almos. Obviously massive rebellions in 28 of about 30 provinces. Most of my troops were in Aragaon holding off 8,000 almos. Garrisons overwhelmed. Game over

I put that down to a learning experience http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Single worst turn? Probably the first one I played after patching. The Byzantines were in control of every square foot of Europe, except for Corsica and Sardinia, which were occupied by Italians and about to be invaded. But, I patched, and loaded up the saved game. I move BIG armies into the islands, and hit the turn button.

BANG. With most of the world believed to be safe, I left only minor garrisons in my less valuable territories. So, every region outside of Anatolia and the Balkans was struck by massive, crippling revolts, with too few forces to put them down. Stupid patch...

I had a good and strong Holy Roman Empire and a good Emperor, sadly he lacked Influence.

First I managed to get into a war with England (France I had killed), Italy, Poland and Hungary. Then my Crusade failed due to the English capturing the Chapter House. I hit back and got excommed. Rebellions here and there, I subdued them, but them my two princes revolted with about 40% of my army and half my Empire. I chose my Emperor and won a few victories in contested provinces, then again I had a Civil War with my forces split 50-50, again I chose my Emperor and won a few victories until the Italians attacked me in every province I had (all four of them). They won three and my Emperor was alone with a few troops in Switzerland... No income... No troops and no friends... I gave up.

It would be hard to identify a *single* worst turn of my own. First or 2nd time I tried Poland (when I first got the game) I did not keep an eye on my general's loyalty, so in the first few moves when I attacked another province with my king, my nice stack in Poland turned against me... I've been real careful about general loyalty ever since. Don't think I've had a civil war since that one.

Can't remember what faction I was playing, but I had a difficult turn coming up, I had expanded rapidly and had marginal loyalty in many provinces. So here I was trying to figure out what to do to best arrange my troops--complex, but quite manageable...until I accidentally hit "END YEAR" before I moved a single unit. All hell broke loose with giant rebel stacks, faction re-emergence and the like...so I reloaded the turn. There should be a "safety" on that button.

I was playing Holy Roman Empire, and was currently attacking the French in their last 2 provinces (they had already been killed twice, but seemed to keep reappearing http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mad.gif ). Anyway, I launched two massive attacks, one with my emperor at the head and one with my best heir, both had 7 stars. Anyway, the first attack ended up being on a bridge http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif . I sent my best over it, Gallowglasses, Italian Infanty (mercenaries), Militia Sergeants with upgraded armor, and tons of Highland Clansmen. THey meet with some high valor Feudal Foot Knights, and the two armies duke it out on the bridge, while being fired upon by archers and the French catapult (which was low valor, kept hitting the water around the bridge). My Gallowglasses, as they tend to do, killed off two units of FFK, but were almost completely killed off while doing, and completely exhausted. THe enemy sent Feudal Knights on, and they started massacring my tired units. I feared a rout, so sent my general onto the bridge. His royal knights were valor 9, so I sent them up the front confidently to attack the Knights. They got stuck behind my spearmen. "Well" I thought, "That's fine, the moral bonus still works". I startedwithdrawing my weakest units, so the knights might be able to get to the front. THey moved up through the ranks of retreating soldiers, and POW, A huge rock crushed half my army, including my king. THe whole thing routs, but they end up being caught behind the exhausted retreating soldiers, who are not running very fast, and are almost all killed by the Feudal Knights.
