I am looking forward to MTW VI, but i was wondering if it were possible that you guys may think of developing smaller scale MTW campaigns with new maps etc.

For instance, I would love to have expansions covering:

(1) just the Crusades, covering the Eastern med, where you can play new factions and old, in a smaller map like VI and STW. French, English, the various Order Knights, Byzantines, etc.

(2) The Hunderd Years War Campaign

(3) The Northern Crusades (Teutomic Knights, HRE, Poland, Lithuainia, etc)

(4) The Reconquista

there are many smaller campaigns similar in scope to VI that probably would require little more work on CAs behalf, yetwould add alot to MTW being new maps and a more focused campaign like VI and STW.

Id really look forward to this, anybody else have thoughts? Devs, is this even being considered?

This is an area that several modders have been working on for some months now.

There is a project ongoing in The Dungeon that will allow people to create smaller campaigns using just parts of the MTW map or entirely new maps altogether. This is all working already.

When the next release of this 'project' occurs this month you will have 3 new mini-campaigns that can be downloaded and played -

- The 100 years war.
- The Reconquista.
- A HolyLand camapign (based just in the Middle East region)

If you want more details check the stickied post's in The Dungeon.

Interesting, Wellington. I had no idea you could mod MTW so dramatically - whole new maps and all. The possibilities are endless...

The possibilities are indeed endless

If you want more info check the stickied thread in The Dungeon ("Automatic LukMap and Script creator"). Ok, a LOT of heavy info in this thread but it may serve to illuminate to interested parties what the next generation of MTW mods should provide.

Note that this LMM utility is intended for use by two types of people -

a) the creator(s) of a new mod
b) the receipient(s) of such mods

One of the major problems in terms of new Campaigns for MTW was the implicit problems involved in downloading 9 meg and 36 meg maps LMM circumvents these problems and allows for the creation of entirly new mods using either -

1) new maps based on the existing MTW maps
2) new maps (smallish) that are downloadable from the web (without infringing copyright restrictions)

If your interested in creating or receiving new Mods then wait until the LMM none-BETA version is released (1/2 weeks - I'll post a new thread in The Dungeon when it's ready).

One final point to note - LMM does NOT compete in any way with CA's add-ons to MTW (obviously, as modders can never produce the same quality as CA). Rather, any new campaign/mods created via LMM should be seen as being complimentary to the MTW products - in much the same way as King Davids 'Patrician' mod has both renewed interest and generated new interest in MTW.

LMM may even help to extend the lifetime of MTW

Stay tuned ... and keep an eye on new Dungeon post's.
