Is it just me or are all Byzantine generals in the game extremely loyal? I've played more than ten different Byzantine campaigns and have had maybe one civil war. I rarely see a Byzantine general with below 5 or 6 loyalty. This is all on hard too. Is this true for other Byzantine campaigns too?

My Expert Byz campaign was simmilar, didn't really have any decent generals with a loyalty lower than 5 or 6... seemed a little historically inaccurate to me.. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Cheers.

same here,

going from byzantines to another faction is usually quite shocking in the disparity between generals.

The Byzntines plotted and killed each other for power like the Romans before them
But i suppose i could see the problems with having a civil war with 9* Generals http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

Biz. generals for me so far have been pretty loyal.
I have had my share of civil war though.
Maybe, hiring too many Mercs. might have had something to do with it.

same problem with my Byz campaigns as well. Too loyal generals and this is historically inaccurate. Those guys should kill / blind/impale each other once in a while .... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Sorry its in my blood. you guys should just put a muzzle on me http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
But seriously although its kind of nice not having to worry about loyalty it is just not an accurate representation of the Byzantine Empire. Treachery was as common place as it is in......in......Dusan Bajevic and greek football (sorry elwe, couldn't help myself) I would definitely like to see more civil wars as the Byzantines or at least generals with lower loyalty.

Try making provinces more rebellioius especially the Balkans in the startpos early txt file

Replace loyalty with rebellion by subject peoples.

but wouldn't that give me more peasant rebellions (which I usually hate with a burning passion) as opposed to general-led rebellions? I'm no modder so I may be talking nonsense however.

forget it,if the generals are treacherous it would be near impossible to finish the byznatine campaign, especially in high and late when they were reduced to scrap from all sides.its probably a balancing issue.

It does seem that the Byz get better Generals than anyone else.
I've played as all factions in most periods, and the Byz do seem to have the best.
The only other faction to have so many good generals and heirs was the Swiss.
Still, it makes the Byz easier to play, and makes up for their tricky start position. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Heraclius buddy ol pal

Province rebellion substitutes general disloyalty and teachery, if you want treachery then peasant revolts are a way of getting that good ol byzantine treachery.

If you want disloyalty in generals just harass them by stripping them of titles and accusing them of treason - I did that to my generals to start a civil war.

Frightening stuff.
