View Full Version : GA or conquer the world?
[Another obvious topic for a poll, but I could not find it on a search.]
I think Glorious Achievements were a great innovation in MTW over Shogun. I prefer them because:
(a) they are less exhausting (fewer battles & less territory to micromanage)
(b) they are more historical (no faction conquered the world)
© they can be more balanced (you have less incentive to rush the AI and so can be more challenged)
(d) playing major Catholics, the four Crusades on early are great fun: lots of historical flavour and quite hard to pull off.
(e) some of the other GAs are fun (especially for the HRE)
(f) it is more conducive to "roleplaying"
I know some factions are short changed with their GAs, so that the choice unfortunately matters less for them. Also GAs seem to get a little more dull outside of early with no more crusades http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif

Aye, i'm finding myself agreeing with you there. Though i do wish a bit more was done with it, cause it feels pretty barebones right now.
*crosses fingers for good GA system in RTW*
GA all the way... except when you eventually play and win them all... then the game gets boring... havent done that yet though http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
GA, but it always ends up being world conquest. Cause a defeated enemy keeps on bugging you. And i can't stand for some little faction sending an army against me every year. Reduce them to one province and they stop.

Glorious Acheivements definitely It gives the game a more enjoyable pace, & it's better for roleplaying the leader, as some noted above, because one has more to do than exterminate everyone. I'm still on my first campaign, but it has caused be to build a much more robust empire than my frantic attempt to "tech-up" for world conquest ever did.
I think the goals hold up well throughout the English campaign at least. For the "wool monopoly," I have to watch my sea lanes very closely; fortunately I already owned most of the wool-producing provinces, so it's only a matter of making sure I sell enough. & upon entering the late period, I discovered that "Rhodes" has appeared on the list of Homeland provinces so I'm moving to take it now.
It would definitely be GAs but this thread is kind of pointless given the fact that the GAs are currently broken. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
"It would definitely be GAs but this thread is kind of pointless given the fact that the GAs are currently broken."
Not only are they broken but I have not heard that CA intends to fix them for VI. This means it's REALLY pointless to debate it. We can't do anything to mod it either, since they are hard-coded.
Cugel - on the "Gameplay improvements with VI" thread +DOC+ started, ECS says Glorious Achievements are fixed.
I confess I haven't noticed the scoring problems, but I do like to have some slightly more subtle goals than to roleplay the Borg

GA without any doubts. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif
i do like to do conquer the world but it just takes tooo long.......
I do like GA's more because then aren't forced to be am expantionist...strengthening your homelands, making crusades and making plans to halt others' point gain makes it much more interesting than conquest http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
what exactly is the scoring problem? the fjirst few times I played GA's I accomplished most (though not all) of my glory goals but conquered a bunch and won. The one I just finished with the turks, I did all the goals real early, to the letter, and the damned game says I lost. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif

Well, it happened to me this weekend. After several attempts a world domination which all ended with another factions handing me my head on a platter, I finished my first GA campaign by conquering 60% of Europe I didn't plan it that way, but after a while, no one would leave me alone so I'd get mad at them & wipe them out.
I still enjoy the GA pace more than Domination.
GA definitely as it adds a bit more roleplay to the game... so saying i'm sure there's a GA bug meaning that not all of them are actually counted
luanched a bunch of succesful crusades as the Italians to Palestine/Antioch and Tripoli and didn't get GA points http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/frown.gif
happened before with the Turks and Jihads... anyone else get the problem?
p.s. all post patch
