Hasent anyone else noted this? it happens when u first click for your unit to fire at an opponent it says firing and nothing happens then reloading then it fires ok Napatha throwers are the worst for this

It makes perfect sense to me. Who in blazes wants to carry a lit naptha grenade around unless they intend to get rid of it right away? No modern soldier in his right mind is going to pull the pin on a grenade and walk around while holding the handle down before a battle starts What happens if he trips and drops it?

Most thrown explosive and incendiary weapons require that you to prime the device just before using it.

And when arquebusiers are firing sometimes there is no smoke at all...thats really annoying when you love loads of smoke on the battlefield http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

I used Naptha throwers only once, and I don't like them at all.
Swoosh, what you described happened to me.

Naptha Throwers are challenging but the key is to keep them in reserve until the time is right. I usually keep them positioned immediately behind a front line melee unit. If you position them as close to the rear of a friendly unit as possible they can easily throw their grenades over the heads of their friends and into the ranks of an enemy unit in front. If this is too nerve wracking run them to an engaged enemy unit's flank and let them go to work. I rarely ever put them in the front lines with missile units.

Ya, thats exactly what Napatha throwers are...., nerve wracking. No other unit causes me so much stress, whether their in my army or my opponents. I can't handle it, I got enough to worry about in a battle than to have to watch them guys accidently blow a hole in my front line. so I don't use them, and I run them down first thing when my enemy brings them out. They cause fear allright.

Handgunners offen reload first before they fire. I find that a bit strange, couldn`t they reload while the enemy is coming? Also, when they move before they fire, they have to reload again
BTW, Naphtas are great. Ok, you must watch them, but if you manage to throw a volley on a formation you can inflict very heavy damage. They can be quiet tough in melee too.

Handgunners are annoying but i think we are using mordern day examples to explain why they would run around with a loaded gun. The gunpowder weapons were very likely to misfire or worse if the shot and powder had been jogged around alot.

On naptha thowers these buggers always seem to decimate your guy's and never do anything for you They can ruin massive amounts of soldiers quickly though

I find Napalm throwers far more useful for defence, as they never seem to be able to fire before withdrawing if the enemy is marching towards them. However down a hill in defence they can decimate a heavily armoured regiment in seconds (then run away).

I LOVE Naphta Throwers. Many times enemies ran just after getting hit with a shower and the grenades are deadly They kill a heck of lot even of heavily armoured knights. You just have to be careful not to let them attack an enemy unit engaged in melee with your own or to get engaged in melee themselves. Otherwise they are great although easier to use defensively. I especially liked using them at bridge battles. While the enemy infantry was marching through the bridge my archers peppered them with arrows and when they closed up to the bridge's end the Naphtas gave them a surprise. They routed after the first wave of grenades. The same was done with following units http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif
They are really great against thick formations...

I've noticed this delayed initial firing with crossbowmen, too. I haven't with archer units, but this may just be because they have a much higher rate of fire, so it matters less.
