Eventhough I would have been happy with Rome as the next game in the TW series, I've always dreamed of a Medieval Total War. Well, my prayers have been answered in the form of Crusades: Total War. Once again Creative Assembly has shown it's metal by choosing a historical time period that is relatively untapped. Just like it's succesor was. Sure there have been other RTS games set in this time period. Age of Kings, Lords or the Realm, and a host of other Fantasy titles. But none of them compare to Total War as far as realism, historical accuracy, and the sheer size of the armies that are amassed for battle. Plus, Shogun was the first RTS game where the word (strategy) actually came into play. The ability to pause the game and issue orders brought this game out of the shadow of other so called RTS games and into it's own genre. I'm so jacked about this game! Now all I halfto do is get my hands on that UK PCgamer. Damb Brits http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

Look, for games to be successful they have to be revolutionary. All the best games ever (Half-Life, Deus Ex, S: Tw were revolutionary)

And they have to be original.

3/4 of historic strategy games are about Rome! Now, that would be unoriginal, and I would have not liked a Roman Total War.

Glory to the Middle Ages! They were also known as the Dark Ages because of few information about them...but finally someone got the guts to release an original game. http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/smile.gif

Sorry, meant to say predecessor instead of successor. Either way, Shogun set the ground work for what I hope are many more titles to come.

There was a "Sengoku Jidai" in China about 500 B.C., the time of "Sun Tsu". At first there were many small countries, and finally 7 of the stronger ones stood out and united by one finally. (The Chin dynasty, where "China" got her name in English.) Maybe it is interesting to look into this chaotic period, too. Hey it will be cool to actually play Sun Tsu! http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/biggrin.gif

One trouble is that Chinese warfare involves a much larger number of men than Japan Sengoku. (of course, there are exaggerations everywhere http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif)

I remember playing a game about 10 years ago called 'castles II'. You had to conquer a island nation that looked like England. You could play as several different factions, all denoted by different colors. You would compete against them to conquer the nation. You had simple foot soldiers, archers and mounted nights. Eventually you could design and build tour own castles to defend and seize. Quite neat for its time. I am glad that a more recent and hopefully excellent version of this time period is being released.

whew---too much typing!

It'll be interesting to see what they come up with aka unit types and strategy improvements for this idea. I see...horse archers and mamelukes, and longbowmen and knightly orders....

Cool, and yer know what's best of all?....NO GUNS! yeh! yippeeee!

I also see many knightly orders/saracen houses instead of clans as well. Should be good!

Arse even more.

Is there no justice in this world?

Well, at least I'll have the option of playing the earlier crusades without these insipient weapons around!

Pretty pumped up about Crusaders too.

As far as China goes, I've played Koei's old "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" games years ago and loved them. If CA does this setting in China it'd be pretty cool.
