It's too easy to have the taxes at high. I tax the bejesus outta my poor people. I think that the negative effect of high taxes should increase over time. I mean who would stand getting taxed 40percent of their income.

It'd also make the game much harder because the cash is harder to come buy without rebellions.

You are right, but:

If it would make a game with the Byzantines more challenging, playing as the Danes or Russians would mean suicide ... So, you have to look the situation from this point of view also http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

If there's something the modern day Danes excel at, then it's taxing. My marginal tax (i.e. the tax I'd pay for my next "florin" if I got a raise) is 58,5%. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/mecry.gif Beat that.

Who would stand to pay 40%?? http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pat.gif My average tax is obviously lower than the marginal tax but still way over 40%. Those filthy peasants have it too easy if you ask me.

I am playing a danes campagin at the moment and I haven't raised taxes above normal yet. Its a pain in the ass but do able.

The Byzantines should be hard as hell to win with. If I remeber it was Constantinople that fell in 1453 and marks the end of this game and them.

The Byzantines aren't hard to win with since when you start an Early campaign it is not very likely that you will make the same bad mistakes that Byzantine rulers made in actual history. If you want more of a challenge, limit yourself, perhaps also start in a later period.

In late is the hardest, even if I manage to get rid of the turks in 2 turns, and after that I reach as far as Egipt quite easily ... A big problem, indeed, is the Black Death, which lowers your income drastically ...
