Well they should at least allow us to shoot into the red zone. I have never really come accross the problem but from what I read this is the main problem.

I don't know, off-hand, of any particularly *good* way to handle reinforcements during battle.

The Shogun:TW way has 'em march onto the map. They're given a safe zone for this, presumably to prevent "spawn camping" whereby an attacker ambushes them *immediately* and causes them to rout off the field in seconds. However, if they've got bows, they can fire from this zone, IIRC...

For comparison, look at Combat Mission; reinforcements essentially beam onto the board, with NO safe harbor. Since in a scenario the reinforcement location might be known (a good excuse for playing double-blind), reinforcements might not live too long... a nasty example is the "Sherbrooke Fusiliers", where Allied armor arrives on a very specific turn in a fixed location. A German player who knows this and who's willing to sacrifice may push like a madman and pretty much destroy the Allied forces (at least when AI controlled...) and position themselves in overwatch over the road used by the armor. Or, they can simply hold back, and time multiple 120mm barrages to start at the appropriate moment...

the red zone is not there for reinforcement reasons. the red zone is there for the reasons that, i believe it was magyar khan said in another post, to keep campers from having a place to always keep their backs to safely. the red zone is 2 tiles wide all the way around the map and it is supposed to prevent armies from just backing up to a finite map edge and not being susceptible to attack from 1 or more directions due to a finite playing field.

since reinforcements always come in on the same place on a given map, there is no reason to have a red zone all the way around a map just for that. there are better ways to give reinforcements a safe way onto the map. the easiest would be allowing them to come in in random locations on one of three sides or multiple sides at once out of the 3 sides. i say 3 sides because i'm presuming that the current map defender controls at least one side himself. in this wise, there would be no spawn camping or at least it would be more of a guess. the ai could also be made sufficiently bright to alter the spawn location if it spotted spawn camping.

so, yes, the red zone will most likely still exist in future games.

Spawn camping! Now there is a term! I can say this for sure: you are only allowed to spawn-camp if you are spawning with some geisha. Otherwise, enemy generals will think low of you for spawning with yourself or your advisors...
