Playing as the Danes I had conquered the whole of Russia and reached Khazar in about 1210. I had thus plenty of time to prepare for the golden rush. They indeed showed up (in Khazar only) with the same amount of men as usual about 5,000 (I play without the patch so they usually get between two and six stacks).

I had an army made of only feudal sergeants (10 units), arbalesters (5) and one unit of cavalry (general's unit).

Their first wave was made of heavy cavalry only.

I never moved and eventually there was no fight. They spent the whole available time running round a bush and never charged...

I left the game running high speed, went for a drink and when I came back my army had made all the Mongols prisoners... No casualty for each side ... My general becoming an expert defender without a fight ... Ok but it seems weird ...

It was the first time for me that such bug occurred . As this ever happened to anybody else ?

lol put the patch on just to try the new mongol horde. They get about 20,000 troops so loads of 2-3 hour battles. In my last game I wiped them out in 3 years http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif

In a game I am currently playing (Turks, Normal, GA, Early) the Horde was wiped out by the Byzantines in around 6 years (with a little help http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif ). I have pretty much stuck to my GAs and so far have over 1.25 Million florins http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/shock.gif The Byzantines and the Elmos own almost the whole map b/w them except a few papacy and HRE provinces. I have the Middle East and Denmark, Norway, Sweeden and have started to expand whenever rebels capture a province I move in (The AI seem to have a tough time with the Rebels for some reason). I had a battle with the Horde where I faced over 200 horse archers, steppe cav and Mongol foot with only 20 Ghulam bodyguards. I won with 10 men left http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif it helped that the GBs had 10 valour http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/tongue.gif (2 points gained in that battle). The stupid thing was their whole army except the general started marching down hill toward me (in Gorgia) I simply went up and their general (a unit of 1 Mongol foot) marched about 75m behind the main force so I simply ran him down in wide formation to avoid arrow casualties. From there it was a nasty melee - well for the Mongols anyway.

The Byz and Elmos are my long time allies never once fought against them only at their side. As was the case in that battle for Georgia.

I'm currently playing Egypt & The Mongols have sperd liek a plague over Russia - we trade provinces - it shows up with 5000 man army & I retire - where numbers are even -ish I fight, making a point of destroying it's hevy cavalry.

It's quiet fun really - recently I had to attack over a river (1 bridge), so I just sat my arbalesters at one end & shot down his infantry & heavy cavalry - the AI jsut sat there - the units dierctly opposite the bridge were just in range of the arbalesters & he kept replacing them as they got to about 20% of strenth - 500 casualties to none and I lost the battle times out - but it was worth it lol

Unfortunately I don't have 1 million florins tho, but I've found a mix of Saracen infantry uphill with shooters behind them to be avery effective way to wipe out vast numbers of Mongols.

Plus I harry their empty provinces & have lots of small battles - 500 of me vs 250 of them, etc. It's great fun - even if I have to fight wars against the French, Germans, Sicilians and Spanish all at the same time

Battles on all fronts is heaps of fun and I'm going to have a bit of a battle ahead of me with the Turks as now my GA is the Turkish Empire. Naturally th Byz hold the provinces I need. So it's scary fightin' time as the Byz have around 10,000 men surrounding my main provinces. But my uber-JHI (every upgrade) and various backing units should do alright against the relativly stagnant Byz military. I surrounded Lesser Armenia early in the game and the Byz have been making units there ever since without a port so they have nowhere to go. There are arounf 3-4000 men in there time to close the fist I think.
