Prosecuting nobility for heresy is notoriously hard. In a recent game I attempted to put my rather indolent, low influence king to the flame with a grand inquisitor to little avail. How hard is it for a man so high in the church hierarchy to put to death a man whom everybody hates? His generals have little loyalty, basically all of his attributes are in the gutter, and he is a pronounced atheist. Why is it so difficult to light him on fire?

It should be hard to torch the king... I found it hard to torch the pope using my four star inquisitor... only 0% chance how unfair is that

It would be hardly a fun game to watch grand inquisitors torch all the kings and not die if they fail.

Try holding the 'trial' in a high zeal province, and with no bishops around - the squeamish holy men reduce your chances of a good fry-up. You'll still need a multi-star inquisitor to cook a faction leader though.

If you want to take out a king, here are four simple steps.

Step 1: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE HEIRS.

Step 2: Pick a fight with another power.

Step 3. Move your king, all by his lonesome, to attack an enemy force, no matter how large.

Step 4: Resolve the battle yourself, simply charge your royal oaf against the frontline, and watch him get cut down like the pot-bellied, crown-wearing git that he is.

There, no more king. Also works for imbecile princes and overly powerful generals

as addendum to swamp thing- put the kings unit in wedge formation and watch him die in a couple of seconds...

other than that let te reveloution flow- you may get a better leader?... but just remember it will not be televised

Also, dismount him before battle so that he'll have less chance in getting away.

you can also have a king killed by loseing a territory and retreating him to the castle. with a little foresight, you can leave him alone in a province tempting your enemies to attack. then, you can play it up and send your newly crowned king in to take vengeous on the infidels.

Ahh, this brings back a few memories...

There was one game I played (Spanish, I think) in which my grand inquisitor was simply flying through popes. I had no intention to listen to the prick, so he kept excomming me, and whenever that happened I'd roast him, thay'd vote in a new one, and the cycle would begin again.

Another time (and game), however, I couldn't even roast an "Aethiest" pope And you dare to call yourself an inquisitor... http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/pissed.gif

Stupid pope.

A few nights ago, I tried using Swamp Thing's suicide strategy to kill off the lesser of my two Almohad heirs. His friends were reduced to royal knight stew, but he fought on - and singlehandedly routed the entire enemy army http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/eek.gif

I killed him off the following turn. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif

Wow

What sought of army were you fighting, and what experience level.

Also, one would raise the question, if your heir managed to rout an ENTIRE army by himself, why kill him at all?

Why kill him? His brother had a few more stars, even if he himself was not a better warrior.

He routed a Portuguese Christian rebellion. Sent him into Spanish Leon next. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif Yeah, in retrospect I should have kept him, because from that battle he gained both "Skilled Attacker" and "Skilled Risky Attacks" or whatever it says. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/cool.gif But then I would've had a king who couldn't defend his own lands.
