I finally started playing an early Turkish campaign. Now I have an opportunity to build Turkoman Foot. They are a light infanty/archer unit. They cost 750 points to build They cost more than full sized Armenian or Ghulum cavalry units

In any way, are they worth 750 pts?????

They are a hybrid, They are good archers and can fight quite well
They are well spaced out so they usually win an archery duel and have shields. They fight fairly well and can be devestating if you flank.
If you cant decide set up a custom battle and see for yourself

Indeed, these guys are possibly the best non-longbow archers in the game. They should be able to defeat any other archer in ranged combat due to their spacing and their good armour and shields.

They are fast and can thus be positioned fast and easily, also they retreat from danger very well. But if caught in a fight they are strong in the defensive and should last long enough for help to arrive.

They might suffer a little in the Moraledepartment but that can easily be countered by Mosques and Ribats. And they are not expensive compared to many other archers, they cost more but not much. They are well worth the money.

yeah, I've played many Byzantine games and those guys have given me a lot of trouble. I'd say build them. They seem excellent with their bows and can put up a sustained fight in melee. Of course, if you can catch them out on the open with cavalry they're dead but still the same is true with most non-spear units. I'd say build them along with a mosque to improve their morale.

Turcoman foot are pretty good. I prefer them over Futuwwas because they are fast and armored. They win every archer duel. When you build a master bowyer in Anatolia, you get them with v2, so their lacking in morale isn`t a prob anymore. And they cost only 30 fl support.

Hmmm, I haven't ever played as the Turks (is that the nation that can build them?) but will have to now I have created a second Roman Empire (Byz infantry + cavalry are too good).

I must admit, I do like these guys....

They are a good all round unit, and as other have said are good in hand to hand.

I usually use them as a second wave of attack after the arrows have run out.

One good thing about light(fast) archers such as this,is that u can place them in your front line, and they can quickly retreat behind teh spearman line,b4 they get charged by cav.

I used them extensively in my first turkish game. I built them in nearly every province I had, but they weren´t of great use in a Turcoman-only-army. http://www.totalwar.org/forum/non-cgi/emoticons/rolleyes.gif i sometimes used such armies, but once a cavalry unit slaughtered one, nearly all of them ran.
But they are really effective in combination with other troops, plus you can build them easily in many provinces, so you can get fast reinforcements.

They seem to be decent troops. They are good fast archers but they still die really fast if caught. If I had a western army, I could buy some really good cavalry for the same 750 pts I am paying for the Turkoman foot. It just seems they are very expensive for archers.
