I am a little baffled. My king sired seven princes.

I arranged my emisaries to get brides for them but the youngest prince were married off first.

The oldest - Prince Edward and Prince Richard didn't get any brides.

Then when the King died, the AI promoted the 2nd youngest Prince, King John 1, to be King.

How does the AI arrange how gets to be king?

btw, sorry about the spelling errors.

I'm assuming that Prince Richard and Edward were the younger brothers of your current King. However the second youngest and youngest prince were the sons of your King. They would be first in line for the throne, not the "Royal Uncles" because they are the direct descendants of the King. I think that explains your problem.

before the patch I noticed that it was always the oldest heir that became king and all his brothers would then be promoted to Royal Blood (this became a right pain because you often got an unmarried 58 year old taking over and when he dies civil war erupts)

Post patch, I have noticed that if the heir to the throne is too old the AI now selects one of the younger brothers to be the next in line (hence solving the problem on the old monarch who couldn't get it up and make any kids).

Just keep those brides rolling in and you'll do fine.

Before the patch, it's a little confusing.

After the patch, the game handles heir much better.

There are 3 groups of potential heir: sons, younger brothers and nephews. However, the game doesn't clearly tell you which one is which.

- Son: always got the throne when mature. Once, one of the son is mature, he will be put on top of the list and highline in red to indicate that he will get the throne.

- Younger brother: if the current King has no son or has no mature son, the oldest younger brother will be highline and will get the throne if the King die.

- Nephew: they are kind of back up for the other two. They won't get the throne unless none of the two types above are available.

Who will get the bride: suppose no one is married yet. The one that is highline in red will get the brides first. Then it goes down the list.

- Sons: if the current King has mature sons. The oldest one will get the birdes first. Then it will continue untill all mature sons are married.

- Brothers: if the current King has no son or no mature son or all sons are married, the younger brothers will get the bride until all are married. He will have to pass when one of the son mature.

- Nephews: they are last in the chain.

That's what I have been observing.

I had a perverted prince who was next in line to be king. Married him at 25 and he came to the throne at 45. No children whatsoever. Didn't give me a daughter (his first) till he was 65, son at 70. Well he died a year later and my English campaign ended.

I saw an interesting situation once in my brother's Byzantine campaign. Emperor John III came to the throne, had a son and died before the son came of age. His brother Constantine became Emperor and had 3 sons. John's eldest was Romanus and Constantine's eldest was Micheal. Guess who got the throne?

Really, guess...

Hmm I wonder if you can adopt an heir into a gay marriage in mtw...

Edward and Richard were not brothers of the late king. They were bona-fide sons.

My king was even praised for producing so many excellent heirs; they all rated over 5 stars each and had no wierd vices.

But only the young princes were given princess; edward and richard missed out altogether.

When the King - Henry 1 died. Edward and Richard were in their mid 40s. John 1 who was married and in his 30s was given the kingship.
