guys , if u belong to teh lucky american bunch, can u state if teh routbug is solved now?
Magyar,
Sorry to say routing when moving back away from the enemy can still cause an unrecoverable rout in the Shogun part of the game. I don't know about the Mongol part of the Warlords Edition. I'll try it later. I tested in custom battle.

jezus that is silly, we uncovered the bug, we posted it and emailed it and it is still not solved. we are just community dummies here.

Magyar,
It's possible that the problem is not as easy to trigger as in the old game. It would take more testing to find out. I was moving an H0 muskett and it auto routed easily, but that is a rather low morale unit. I know it was auto routed because it would briefly rally and then start running again which is a telltale symptom of the bug.
I did notice that low honor units hang in there and fight for a much longer time than before. I had a H0 Naginata Cav fighting an H2 Yari Samurai on expert difficulty and, although the NC lost badly, the unit fought to the last man. I also saw a severely beat up enemy H2 YS rally right in the middle of one of my samurai archer units, and I've never seen that before.
I am concerned that the F1 status screen is not fixed. It still shows zero for the attack value for all units. That seems like it would be a straight forward fix, and it was pointed out to CA/DT by me in email and in Question Time 3. If they are not going to fix something simple like that, then much more involved things like the auto rout would not seem to stand much of a chance of ever being addressed.

I've noticed it's a b@tch to get units to rally in the new game too, at least my units http://www.totalwar.org/ubb/wink.gif

ships,
yup, i couldnt rally a single unit of mine in the first custom game and i had a h3 hvy cav general. i had about 5 or 6 units rout and couldnt rally a single one of them, so increasing the overall difficulty to rout must have also increased the difficulty to rally somehow.
as for the rout bug itself. i havent encountered it yet that i could see, unless perhaps all those units mentioned above had rout bug routed.
and yes, units dont rout as easily as before. i saw a number of units on the enemies side that didnt finally run off till they only had 4-6 men left in it and mine were pretty low as well, which could explain why it's difficult to rally...smaller units tend to be harder to rally...least in my experience. it's like they look around at the few remaining and go...'you've got to be kidding'.
the rout bug was known about long ago and even though we didnt pin it down till much, much later, i would have thought ca would have addressed this also, but then thinking back on target's post about the multi campaign, and looking at the fact that we still havent seen this 30 meg patch, i'm not that surprised. i'm not trying to flame ca here, but it just seems like they may have bitten off more than they could afford...xpack, big patch, driver patch, multi campaign, and a new crusader's game. i think they got caught in their own enthusiasm :) appetite over tin cup, as it were, and so some things just didnt get the attention they needed...or that we needed.

That 'briefly rally then rout again' feature of routing units was always a part of failed rally tests, I thought. As for Rout-Bug affected units I dont think I ever noticed them attempting to rally, and thought they were listed in the logs as having withdrawn. This is just a plug to say that more testing should be done, that we shouldnt get too discouraged so soon. But the fact that someone who knows hasnt answered this concern for us after all this time and an expansion game even; is a little disconcerting to put it mildly.

Sorry to say, I just auto-routed an H2 Japanese Heavy Cav unit while moving away from an enemy H2 monk with SHIFT-click. I think the unit took off on the forth waypoint.
Takeshida,
These units that auto-rout will rally to an uncertain status, but then immediately rout as though they failed a morale check as you say. There can be no enemy in sight, and they still fail the morale check. The fact that the unit never passes the morale check may be the actual bug in all this.
